Last summer I was up at the shop and heard a gunshot (not uncommon here) real close. I stepped out the same time my wife did from the house. Didn't hear any more so I went back to what I was doing. When I walked back down to the house pieces of a white 5 gallon bucket were strewn all over the driveway. I stood there trying to figure that one out when I realized it looked like the same bucket that was in my truck a couple dozen feet away. When I peered into the bed the trailer spare had exploded, just sitting there. Blew the bucket to smithereens and all over the place.
Similar incident happened to me a few years ago. Was away on holidays and my neighbour heard, and felt a huge bang one day, he thought there had been a gas explosion of something. Searched my place and neighbours near by but no one found anything of suspect. We got back from holiday and it was a few day later I noticed a spare tire for the truck I had in the back yard had blown out.....that must have been what he heard and felt!

My buddy is replacing the rear axle (AAM 11.5 I believe) in his 05 cummins. He found a good replacement for dirt cheap instead of replacing the pinion bearing. Now I am wondering if it would be worth it to get his old axle and eventually swap it for the dana 70. Anyone know if it would be a relatively direct swap or not?

Boy Howdy This Stuff Works

Ok, I came down to Kino Bay yesterday and the first thing I did was break my only pair of sunglasses that I had. I was in the process of beating myself up, when I remembered that I had brought down that glue pen that I posted about above. Well, I am impressed...:

It has sure paid for itself ...Mark

Higher quantity UV adhesive

Ok guys, I'm definitely gone OCD, I got to thinking that this uv glue pen couldn't possibly be the only option, so I did the ole google bit and found that you can buy the uv glue and even the uv lights, just like the dentists:

https://www.permabond.com/products/uv-glue-uv-adhesive/ There is only 4 grams in that tube I posted above. I had no idea that this stuff was even a thing and have no clue as to why these guys aren't pushing this stuff...Mark

They are supposed to be a good axle, but you will have to cut and re-weld the spring mounts in the proper location for your springs, not to mention the AAM is like 7" wider than your D70, so you will need some seriously off set rims to pull the tires back under your rig, or if you like the wide "Hot Wheels" look then you will need 3" spacers up front + some off set rims to get your front / rear tracking back in line. I don't know what kind of connection they make to the drive line, but you will need to adjust that too. So, can you do it? Yes. Is it worth the work? Sup to you.

Is it disc or drum brakes? Will you be required to replace the proportioning valve to correct the pressure to the rear discs? There are aftermarket prop valves out there, I believe.

Will gear ratio be an issue?

Seems like a lot of effort to go through with minimal difference in performance.

Thanks, I kinda figured it would be more work than it is worth for my needs. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't some awesome upgrade that id be passing on.

Well, at least the Cummins is working

Been working on the old boat and really thought that I had it solid enough for a fishing trip out to sea. Got her in the water, lit her up and she ran great, for about 3 miles. It gave a big shudder and quit. Could get it to start and idle, but the second I put it in gear, she dies. So, I get it home, hook her to water in order to run the fuel out of her, decide to put it in gear to see if it does the same thing........and she seems to be working fine. I think that I have the only boat on Earth that hates water ...Mark

I have a chain saw that is the same way....idles great, revs up and comes down perfectly but as soon as you touch a log and begin to cut it will die.
