WH1C install done!

OK, some of u may have been following my other thread intitled "Turbo Dilema"

Well, I got the WH1C mounted and running, and I absolutly love it!! Next to my 366 spring, this is the best mod to date! The spool is intant, it sounds like a 747, and Im only hazing under load. Now I need injectors, and a different compressor housing. Im totally happy with the results, going from the stock H1C/18.5 to the WH1C/12 W/G is just an amazing difference!

Well, now for some penny pinching, and a call to HTT. According to them the stage IV kit makes the WH1C a HX-40 Hybrid capable of handling the air needs for 400HP, which is my goal BTW (W/O drugs)

YUP! I love mine. Don't forget to get a $6 boost controller off Ebay. With this you can tweak your boost higher than the stock WG controller allows. I have mine set to 35# and with the 12 cm housing my boost goes there almost instantly and the kick in the butt is a real nice feeling.

I don't know why you'd need a different compressor housing though. I need a better crossover pipe since mine's a non-IC I had to grind the flange off my housing to mate but I still have the small restriction in the crossover.

Try turning up the pump before you go to bigger injectors. You might get all the power you want for free.

What does the WH1C come off of originally? Was it a bolt on swap?

The WH1C comes off the first year or two? of second gens. Also, that turbo won't support 400hp. It could probably do that on a second gen but HTT doesn't realize how much torque we make per horsepower. I would say 350hp tops give or take with that turbo and in the words of Dave, it'll be "thermonuclear" temperatures. Obviously water/meth could get you close to the 400hp mark if you were at 350 on #2 only

1994 Cummins Rams. It's pretty much a bolt up for an intercooled truck. The downpipe has to be moved back some to accomodate the wastegate.

yup. I can still hit well over 1200 with my stage III and '06 intercooler. I don't think a hybrid will break 400 rwhp on a 1st gen...without a cam and headwork anyway and for that kind of coin, you might as well shove a p-pumped engine in there

The install was a complete "plug and play" install (STUPID MANIFOLD BOLTS!)
Like Greg said, u have to move the DP back a little. So the once close fit 4" DP is now a vertually NO clearence 4"DP. I gotta get in there sometime and make sure im not goign to melt the firewall cover deal for the blower motor. The only thing not hooked up is the wastegate. I just have not had time to find a spot run the line. Besides, I dont have a ......... Boost gauge.

YET

I need a new housing do to the fact the flange was ground off or cut off for a Non-IC crossover. The IC trucks have an aluminum 90* elbow that mounts with the same clamp as the Downpipe, so, w/o that flange I keep blowing the makeshift 90* radiator hose, IC boot elbow off of the compressor housing. I have to try n get a real 90* elbow that'll work.

The WH1C's are the stock turbos on 94 & 95 second gens. The HX-35 installed from 96 on utilizes some kind of bolting to hold the compressor housing, wheras the H1C, and W, use the band clamp. The WH1C, not only uses a 12CM W/G exhaust housing, but, also have the MWE slot, AND a larger compressor wheel.

Oh yeah, my IP is maxed. I have done ALL the cheap and free stuff, I have one thing left to try, gotta weld an extension on my fuel screw. I am at the point now, I have to purchase power.

Wonder what kind of numbers Im turning?

7/16 open/boxed end wrench (craftsmen quick wrench rocks here)
15MM socket with a good 6 inch extension, and nuckle, for manifold bolts
10mm socket for oil drain tube bolts.

Thats the list for the H1C, sorry, add a 15 MM boxed end wrench. I Highly suggest ONLY a 6 point boxed end and u have to make em set in some kind of penitrating oil. The W/G is in the way on all 4 nuts on the manifold mounting studs.

Be sure to get a turbo drain tube gasket, RTV is only a temp solution. Mine is leaking, $80 of Amsoil synthetic on the ground. Not badly by anymeans, but dribbling.

Now on the DP stuff, im clueless on a second gen. I only needed those 3 tools right there for the entire swap. other then 12 hours of liquid wrench or the like, to soak the manifold bolts. ok, I shoudnt say bolts, they are studs.

The manifold bolts were a livid pain, but after a night in "Liquid wrench" then a 1/2 inch drive rachet they turned right off w/o one problem.

I kept soaking mine in PBblaster. 3 nuts came out, and one of the studs completely backed out.

Dont forget the 16mm/ 5/8" and 19mm/ 3/4" wrenches to take off the oil supply hose.
