VSS Ratio Adapter

I broke my ratio adapter while checking the connection of the VSS plug. The speedo was erratic and it was jumping in and out of overdrive. Was told the ratio adapters are no longer available through Dodge. I've seen it on the PATC website however, it lists different correction applications due to tire size changes etc. Does anyone know which one I'll need? Do I even need this adapter? I don't understand how they designed it with a plastic half and an aluminum half that's riveted together. The plastic portion broke real easy. Thanks for any thoughts.

You can run without the adapter but your speedo will be off. I have a gps in my truck so at least I won't get a ticket. I also was able to figure out the percentage I was off, 18 percent in my case, but I haven't had the $ to buy a new adapter yet since I had to rebuild the trans.

You are talking about the right angle drive adapter, right? If you can hold it
together and turn the input while counting the turns of the output, you will be able to figure the ratio. Depends on how "broke" it is.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input. How broke is it? It's broken in half. There are two halves to this assembly. One half of the 90* portion is aluminum and the other half of the 90* portion is.... PLASTIC! I tried to tighten the 15/16 (?) nut on the threaded plastic portion and voila! It broke. Anyhow, I carefully managed to scrape off some hard gluelike substance and from what I can make out, there is a number stamped on each half. 0932 on the aluminum side and what appears to to 1.3046 on the plastic side. I installed the VSS back on the transfer case just so I can have OD again. The speedo reads quite a bit slower and OD comes on real late with a slight let off on the throttle. On the PATC website, they have these ratio adapters available in % corrections. Judging from the pics on the website, those adapters are all metal and screwed together, not riveted like the stock one. Will give Kerry at PATC a call and let him know the numbers I found. Hopefully it will help him in deciding the right one. Man I tell you guys, this truck is costing me some $$$.

With the VSS directly connected to the transfer case. All you need to know is how far you are off. Using 50mph makes it easy. Just multiply the difference by 2 and that give you your %.

This is the best place to get ratio adapters. They are knowledgeable about the Getrag 360 and can make a custom adapter like they did for me.

Here is another way to calculate percent error (the correct way in my opinion); X-Y=Z, then divide Z by X. 65 (indicated speed)-55 (actual speed, maybe from GPS)=10, 10/65= 15.3% error. Best thing to do is plug the VSS directly without any adapter, calculate the error you have, and then let PATC know your percent error and they can send the correct adapter. In my opinion a non-functioning speedo/odo is unacceptable. It's a major red flag when it comes time to sell the truck

Hey guys, thanks for all your input. It is greatly appreciated. Spoke to Kerry from PATC and gave him what info I had. Was told I need a 30% correction. He said they have a 28% available and I'll only be off by 1 mph @ 50mph. Got it coming in the mail any day now.
