Votes for Stack type on my truck

Iv'e been stuck in a little communications closet all day trying to upgrade a server to a larger RAID array and am bored out of my mind!

So just thought I'd take a straw poll of what kind of stack I should put of my truck?

texaspower19 03-31-2006 07:51 PM

i think 6 inch miter cuts would look good.

oscaroc 03-31-2006 07:55 PM

Miter cuts! Painted flat black

mhuppertz 03-31-2006 07:56 PM

Two or one?

oscaroc 03-31-2006 07:59 PM

I like the looks of two.

What kind of RAID. :)

i think 2 would look the best.

Geico266 03-31-2006 08:21 PM

N ooooooooo!

5" side exhaust in front of the rear tire. Subtle, not overstated. That is a classy truck. Don't put stacks on it. Everyone is doing that.

No lift = MAYBE stacks

Lift = NO STACKS!

Just say no!

rockjeep73 03-31-2006 08:56 PM

On that clean of a truck I think a pair of chrome 5" mitre cuts would be perfect, about cab height too!

G1625S 03-31-2006 09:04 PM

Single turnouts only on SRW trucks [nonono] First gens aren't angular enough to wear miters porperly...imo.

I beg to differ dual 5" kicked straight back. I get a whole lot more coverage if ya know what I mean. Jethrro

6WHEELER 03-31-2006 09:31 PM

dual 5in on srw, i like miter cuts, and at least 6in above the cab. 6in on a drw, i got 5's on mine but going to 6in when the cash is better.

Willy91 03-31-2006 10:18 PM

Dual 5" chrome turnouts. :)

I seen an old steam locomotive come through Tacoma WA once, the Daylight, Southern Pacific 4449, City of Portland that didn't smoke that much!!!

Timb's truck looks good, but it would look better with a pair of 5" turnouts. :p

Turnouts should be installed pointed out and back at a 45 degree angle. Straight out to the side looks like rabbit ears, and straight back just doesn't look right either.

timb 04-01-2006 09:11 AM

You love em, and you know it Wanna. [laugh]

G1625S 04-01-2006 09:14 AM

In any event, I've got to admit I wish I went 6''...

bgilbert 04-01-2006 09:56 AM

I vote no stacks. Get yourself a 4" back kit.

RAID 5 with three 15,000 RPM drives. ;)

Anything bigger than 4" on a pick-up looks like out-of-place stove-pipes.

Mount them outside the bed at the gap between cab and bed.

Go at least 18" above the cab with turnouts angled to side as previously stated.

I'm not sure what you mean here, having a hard time picturing it....

Dont try. [yuk] It will scare you real bad. [eyecrazy]

FrdRdnk 04-01-2006 05:26 PM

IMO, on an extended cab, duals look better. I mounted my stack almost flush with the cab height wise. It's a turnout on a 45 like wanna said. I like miter cuts too, but although alot of people say it'll look good on a truck as clean as yours remember that it won't stay clean when it rains. Not that I disagree, there's just some pluses and minuses to any way. In the end it's gonna come down to what you like best.

I have to agree, completly. I love Mitre's, and Bullhaulers (dually only!) IMHO try something different, id say go with dual 5 or 6 inch flat tops! Not a big fan of rain caps, "flappers" but thats just me.

Cummins Freak 04-01-2006 06:13 PM

i think on 1st gens a single turn out looks the best

gman07 04-01-2006 06:47 PM

If you're absolutely set on stacks, I like dual 5" turnouts pointed almost straight back. Otherwise I'm with bgilbert, just go with a regular 4" straight pipe.

I'm not dead set on stacks. What I'd really like to do is put a turnout through my hood, but I haven't come up with a way to do that and maintain easy engine access....

Easy! You just need tp devise a way to disconnect the pipe just below the level of the hood. Then all you would need is the one hole. Maybe a twist off or sometype of locking pins. Then when you need under the hood just remove the pipe and lift the hood. Or run you exhaust to the rear edge of the hood, notch the hood, and rehindge to lift forward(similar to a corvette). I've been thinking about this too.

I'm thinking a twist wedge lock would work pretty well. I know it might be crazy loud in the cab, but I have always liked the through the hood look. I think a fatty coming out of there would really give an outlaw vibe to a 1st genner.
On the other hand, I don't want to screw up the truck and make it uncomfortable to drive, as in smoke through the windows and soot splatter all over the truck. I tend toward non-conformity (I run a straight pipe after all!) and wouldn't hesitate to do something radical as long as I can live with it!

G1625S 04-01-2006 07:47 PM

I doubt the local law would live with it. Though most exhaust laws are loosely enforced at best, they seem to take the ''must exit behind passenger compartment'' pretty seroiusly.

I didn't even think about that! CRUD... major buzz kill....
This truck pumps me up big time!

G1625S 04-01-2006 07:57 PM

Yeah, it's a bummer. I hate having to use my side mirror to watch how much throttle my turbo can keep clean--be nice to just look ahead--add pedal till you see smoke...then add more pedal!

Hayseed 04-01-2006 08:03 PM

IMO it's your call. View the members' pics and see what YOU like the best!!! I prefer my bull horns on my dually.

Micaiahfied 04-01-2006 10:58 PM

anyone thought of coming the passenger fender with a turn up or something like that? i was looking at that a while ago... i think it could be done just have to get around all the heater components.

Deezle98 04-02-2006 10:15 AM

Dont be like everyone else, go with a single 5 inch turnout!
