Votes for Stack type on my truck
Iv'e been stuck in a little communications closet all day trying to upgrade a server to a larger RAID array and am bored out of my mind!
So just thought I'd take a straw poll of what kind of stack I should put of my truck? https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...dge02_-med.jpg |
i think 6 inch miter cuts would look good.
|
Miter cuts! Painted flat black
|
Two or one?
|
I like the looks of two.

N ooooooooo!
5" side exhaust in front of the rear tire. Subtle, not overstated. That is a classy truck. Don't put stacks on it. Everyone is doing that. No lift = MAYBE stacks Lift = NO STACKS! Just say no! |
On that clean of a truck I think a pair of chrome 5" mitre cuts would be perfect, about cab height too!
|
Single turnouts only on SRW trucks [nonono] First gens aren't angular enough to wear miters porperly...imo.

dual 5in on srw, i like miter cuts, and at least 6in above the cab. 6in on a drw, i got 5's on mine but going to 6in when the cash is better.
|
Dual 5" chrome turnouts. :)
|
|
Agreed!!! |
stainless ones!!!!!!!!

I seen an old steam locomotive come through Tacoma WA once, the Daylight, Southern Pacific 4449, City of Portland that didn't smoke that much!!!

Timb's truck looks good, but it would look better with a pair of 5" turnouts. :p
Turnouts should be installed pointed out and back at a 45 degree angle. Straight out to the side looks like rabbit ears, and straight back just doesn't look right either. |
You love em, and you know it Wanna. [laugh]
|
In any event, I've got to admit I wish I went 6''...
|
I vote no stacks. Get yourself a 4" back kit.

Anything bigger than 4" on a pick-up looks like out-of-place stove-pipes.
Mount them outside the bed at the gap between cab and bed. Go at least 18" above the cab with turnouts angled to side as previously stated. |

Dont try. [yuk] It will scare you real bad. [eyecrazy] |
IMO, on an extended cab, duals look better. I mounted my stack almost flush with the cab height wise. It's a turnout on a 45 like wanna said. I like miter cuts too, but although alot of people say it'll look good on a truck as clean as yours remember that it won't stay clean when it rains. Not that I disagree, there's just some pluses and minuses to any way. In the end it's gonna come down to what you like best.

i think on 1st gens a single turn out looks the best
|
If you're absolutely set on stacks, I like dual 5" turnouts pointed almost straight back. Otherwise I'm with bgilbert, just go with a regular 4" straight pipe.

Easy! You just need tp devise a way to disconnect the pipe just below the level of the hood. Then all you would need is the one hole. Maybe a twist off or sometype of locking pins. Then when you need under the hood just remove the pipe and lift the hood. Or run you exhaust to the rear edge of the hood, notch the hood, and rehindge to lift forward(similar to a corvette). I've been thinking about this too. |

On the other hand, I don't want to screw up the truck and make it uncomfortable to drive, as in smoke through the windows and soot splatter all over the truck. I tend toward non-conformity (I run a straight pipe after all!) and wouldn't hesitate to do something radical as long as I can live with it! |
I doubt the local law would live with it. Though most exhaust laws are loosely enforced at best, they seem to take the ''must exit behind passenger compartment'' pretty seroiusly.

This truck pumps me up big time! https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ge_Stacks4.jpg |
Yeah, it's a bummer. I hate having to use my side mirror to watch how much throttle my turbo can keep clean--be nice to just look ahead--add pedal till you see smoke...then add more pedal!
|
IMO it's your call. View the members' pics and see what YOU like the best!!! I prefer my bull horns on my dually.
|
anyone thought of coming the passenger fender with a turn up or something like that? i was looking at that a while ago... i think it could be done just have to get around all the heater components.
|
Dont be like everyone else, go with a single 5 inch turnout!
