Nope. The auto pumps have a TPS stapled to the throttle linkage, but are otherwise identical to the manual pumps.

I recently had my VE rebuilt and the Injection shop said that there were three different pumps used on the first generation engines. My core was shot and luckily they had one, otherwise ouch.

Hi,
I just installed a new auto pump on my manual truck. The only difference was the TPS sensor that came with it. I gave the TPS sensor to a fellow on this forum who needed it. The truck runs great now.

The VE differences have to do with the CPL and year-

89-early 91- CPL 0804- 114 pump
91-mid 92- CPL 1351- 184 pump
mid 92-93- CPL 1579- 205 pump

The numbers are the last 3 on the pump number. I forget which order the others go, so I am not going to confuse anyone.

SO just for curiosities sake, what do those numbers mean and what are the differences?

My "guess" would be they mean nothing to anyone except maybe Bosch. Different manufacturing runs, customer lots, whatever. Practical difference to people like us? Probably none, 'cept maybe stuff like different KSB?

The first two pumps are for the non-intercooled models and the third is the intercooled engine. The non-intercooled models have higher flowing injectors and a different cylinder head (9mm vrs. 7mm). Mabye someone out their from an injection shop could chime in here. dpuckett or someone with some solid info, help us out here. Mine is a 92 intercooled and I just checked, it is the 205 model.

That theory doesn't hold up if the dates listed are correct. Mid 91 would be when the heads went to 7mm.

Check dpuckets post-----Im not guessing theory or anything, just saying, the 205 is for the intercooled motor. And mine is an auto and it is the 205. The earlier non intercooled motors (91 1/2 and older) did have higher flowing injectors. Thats why you dont get as much benifit as intercooled engines changing injectors. Intercooled motors do benifit from the change and they range from mild to wild. Only limit is how much that you want to spend. The smaller injector size, 7mm, gave the head better resistance to cracking around the injector by leaving more metal, thus the smaller hole. Someone will jump with more data. Theres another post right now about what they had to do to run different pumps on later style motors, and clutch to auto comparison.

Palerider, you apparently have a later 92 model, I'd even venture to say it is either a CPL 1579 with the 18cm housing as stock, or your truck got in on the recall of injector pumps, and is a CPL 1351 with the 21cm Lagmaster. You are right about the size of the injector tips and cracking of heads. BUT, keep in mind everyone, it is the size and number of holes that determines fuel flow.

The 114 is the only one for the nonIC trucks- the 184 and 205 are intercooled. The numbers on the pump are a kind of Bosch control parts list. They look up the pump and can find what rollers or delivery valves (or whatever else) to put back in when rebuilding. My two pumps had different numbers on the DVs, but looked identical.

I have a 103 pump on my 89. I don't know if it's original or a 'make from' pump someone put together.

I meant of the 3 I listed. But you are right, I guess there could be just about any 6 cylinder VE on there by now.
