ve pump vs p7100/p pump

which one the better one.i bought me 94 12 valve.i want to p pump my 92.how hard would it be. thank yall

I own both, so far my preference has got to go to the ve. The ppump is a cranky starter. I drive the ppump truck all the time now because the trans went on the 91 but I miss the ve motor much more than I like the extra power of the ppump.

Depends on what your doing with the truck. What are you doing with the truck?

Both are good pumps.
I prefer the VE over the P7100 for driving, especially a turned up VE vs a turned up P7100. My VE truck is much smoother to drive, the P7100 with 4k gov springs is pretty touchy.

like the above posts, ive run both- p-pumped my ford once and changed back to ve. its noy hard to do but the p-pumps big advantage is higher rpm fueling-needed for competition. i dont drive much above 2500 rpm. the ve properly set with the right injectors will overfuel even a big laggy single so if you not going to twins for diveability stick with ve. ve has a broader powerband the p-pump and starts alot better cold. i love them both but drive the ve.

Rick 12v CTD 05-02-2011 12:20 PM

crewcab, you ppump starts a lot better cold?

My situation is exactly the opposite.

PapeCAT 05-02-2011 12:37 PM

I think he meant the opposite.

The VE pump will always start easier than a P Pump due to dynamic timing advance and full fuel at start up. It was due to EMISSIONS that the p pump was designed to start without full fuel etc. Because of this a stock P pump smokes less at start up.

i am looking for a VE pump for my old man. I see that there is a couple p pump conversions in the classifieds here. did not check dates to see how old they were.

fast59 05-02-2011 07:15 PM

i swapped out my ve for a 215 p-pump and granted the ve starts quicker than the p-pump does but i would'nt go back ever again to a ve the p-pump is far superior and way more fun.

How much power are you putting down with your truck fast59?

ARbowhunter7 05-02-2011 09:25 PM

I agree with the above. The P-Pump is awesome, but it's driveability on a decent HP motor sucks. Throttle is SUPER touchy, even with someone who drives the truck every day.

A cranked up VE won't make near the power, but the driveability of a hopped VE is second only to a common rail truck, IMO.

i haul hay and horses with it.i never messed with pump.its stock,i just need abit more power pulling up hill and pulling livestock and hay.i got 25hp injectors.you think its dumping to much feul in there to them

td3620 05-02-2011 10:35 PM

mostly on paved roads

it's always hilarious when I let people I know drive the ford, because the pedal is soft and power is right there. It's real touchy. They kinda stomp on it thinking it'll be slow, but it'll lurch so they let off and it'll stall because the timing is so advanced. Pretty funny to see. My truck's got a ton of power but it needs a different turbo, this one is impossible to spool.

Also, the ppump is not even close to as good on fuel as the VE in my dodge. The ford is a lot heavier but it also has a WAY better transmission. Also, I towed 9k behind the ford and only got like 8-9mpg going 70-75mph on winter fuel. I was hoping for a little better to be honest.

crewcabxlt 05-03-2011 09:15 AM

i think alot of people think they have "maxed out" their ve , turning in the fuel screw and throwing in a "pin" and big stixs isnt enough-you have to upgrade fuel supply AND grind some off the afc lever for max fuel. i can tow uphill with any p-pump ov vp with comparable turbo,s. with better very good fuel economy. again- i love the p-pump too. especially for compitition levels of fuel.

I cant say for sure onpower havent dynoed it yet hopefully this summer but im guessing its 400ish HP and 850ish TQ give or take i love driving this thing everyday no drivability issues tons off power next to no smoke and im getting anout 19mpg driving the heck outta her.My ve with maxed pump and mods big sticke and an hx40 was an insane smoke monster was fun but got old real quick.
