Re:VE pump ramblings...
I agree, the 60lb exhaust springs wouldn't be a bad idea. It's cheap insurance, and gives you a reason to adjust the valves, if anything.

I would also like to thank jughead for his support. I'm sure when reading this he is saying, "I told you so!"

Mike
LOL This just keeps getting more confusing. Okay got a little more info for yall to chew on.

The 90 model pump has a green AFC spring (most VE pumps that I have seen do), but, mine has an all silver spring that is the same length but the green spring is a little stiffer than the 92's. I have been told that the all silver spring is from an industrial pump. Could the silver spring be the reason for the increased performance when switching to the 75 from the 70H?

Re:VE pump ramblings...
My AFC spring is all silver. I have wondered about why mine was silver, and others colored. The pump has been replaced because of the recall, I believe. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Good observation on the stiffness. Do you have a valve spring tester to test the stiffness?

Mike
My pump has been replaced as well for the recall. Dunno if there is anything to this or not, but it very well could be.

Re:VE pump ramblings...
I think what would really help here is for someone with access to part numbers to post what the best parts are. If I knew what they were I could order them. But if I call a shop and say "I want the green and red thingy and the really hifalootin double throw down gizmo with the really skinny gonkalator armature". OK? overnight that would ya?
After they kick me out I will be wishin' I had some part numbers.
Please?
Needing numbers in washington

I have a small untested theory..

My 89 had a Red/Green spring and so does my 93. I am thinking that the silver springs were issued in 92 with the 21 CM housing to compensate for the low power complaint in the 91 year release. Both the 89 and 93 have the 18.5 Cm housing and both have the red/green spring. However the AFC pin seems to be different (as reported).

Thoughts? Or has this been said already and I missed it :-X??

J-eh

That very well may be the reason. However, that still does not explain why jughead has a silver spring in his 90 model. I realize that these are real small modifications that could only net you a few hp. But, I am more interested in the reason behind all the changes in the eccentric, AFC spring etc. between the years. The AFC spring will only change your low end fuel rate. After about 16psi or so you should over ride the spring pressure and bottom it out.
BTW: I called Delco Diesel in Ok City today, the quoted price on the 3200 gov spring was somewhere around 14 bucks. part number 1464650366. There website is http://www.delcodiesel.com I am gonna go by there Monday and order the spring.

Ratchet,

You should be able to take that part number to any Bosch pump shop and have then order it for you. Another place that I am aware of that another owner is ordering from is:
Trey's Fuel injection
Temple, TX
254-770-3401
I would be happy to get an extra one for you, but it may be more conveniant for you to go to the nearest pump shop and get it from there. Let me know.

Monty
