VE Pump Question

Does anyone know the factory settings of the VE Pump? Power screw, star wheel, smoke screw? Such as: turn all the way in and back out X number of turns?

Each pump is slightly different, due to tolerances in machining and other parts, and the factory settings were set per motor. So no there is no magic settings unfortunately....or I have never come across any.

Each one reacts and tunes differently in my experience.

I wish there was, my power screw has been screwed in-n-out so many times I have lost track.

I know the factory specs but without a pump test bed they probably would not mean much.

My dream is to find a 1st gen that's never been to a mechanic nor had a owner touch the pump.

I know they will all have minor variations but would be nice to have a known good baseline.

I installed a rebuilt pump last year and as far as I know it was setup properly for my vehicle. I had to back off the fuel screw in order to install the 366 spring but I put it back exactly where it was. I haven't even had to change the idle setting.

The truck produces all the power and speed that I need right now. I don't haul anything much so no problem. It cost me about $750 not counting the Barring tool I had to buy to get the timing set correctly. I had some serious leaks and this was the easiest way for me to solve them. IMHO it was money well spent.

Thanks for all the answers guys. I got an answer on another forum that was power screw & star wheel - 3 turns out from bottom and smoke screw 2 turns past the underneath lip. The gentleman who posted said that those would be good starting points.

Gregg- I recently picked a low miler, 1991.5 model year. I, too was curious of stock settings on the starwheel, and since this truck had a totally untouched pump, I opened up the AFC top, marked a cog on the starwheel, and turned it all the way clockwise/downward. It took 1.25 turns down to bottom out from the stock, factory setting. I want to say that's what it's going to be for all VE pumps pre set from the factory, but the others here that posted made good points in saying each pump is custom "tuned", so I'm just going to call it an FYI.

As far as I know my pump has never been touched. Eventually I plan on recording the "Factory" settings when I decide to tune it in.

I have tuned several never before touched / tuned 1st gen 12V pumps, and one is totally different from the next.
One 12V the fuel screw hits the safety collar almost instantly the next one gives me more than enough room to turn it in more than I need. I am talking three full turns of the fuel screw and more to go if I need it with the lock collar still in place. The one 12V that let me turn it in three turn with the stock collar in place makes great power with few mods on the NON inter cooled motor.
