Ve pump problems i time help!!!
here is the story: was driving my 92 dodge gen 1 5.9 diesel, about 60 mph. it sort of missed 2 times. then just took off at full go with out my foot on peddle. i could control it by turning off key to stop engine. till i had place to stop the truck. had it towed home. did some looking, and others told me thing but it still runs away. i live in calabash North Carolina. only said this because your in south carolina some place. any was about me i was a ase master tech. but was on cars not diesel's at all. i did check return springs, and now have top off the pump but everything looks good. So why is this happening?? i really need my truck its all i got and retired but i work on beach houses, and am losing my contract if i dont figure this out. can you help me..and no i cant afford a new pump for i live on disability, and little money. i do have pictures of it all if needed. thank you

Call a Chrysler dealership and give them the last 8 of your vin numbers. They can run a vin search to see if this recall applies to your truck. If it does and it hasn't been done then they will replace your injection pump at no cost to you since recalls never expire. Refer to Recall #605.

Mike,
If your truck is an auto, check the TPS hex shaft for binding where it goes into the VE top. Loosen the AFC cover plate screws a turn each & see whether the throttle linkage pops back.
Whether auto or not, check the pedal linkage and cable all the way to the VE linkage.
Eyeball the fulcrum pin, and if it seems all there, wiggle it side to side before proceeding with the recall.
You may also want to see if the fuel screw has its lock collar missing, and check whether the locknut is tight.

Perhaps there is a local 1st gen person who could help you out? If you were close to me I would be more then willing to give my assistance to get you back on the road.
Hard to say where that pin came from without tearing the pump down. There are lots of little pins and parts inside the IP...guess something failed and broke and that is the result.

Michael,
I have a good running pump that came off a 92 you can have if it gets you back to work.
I am too far too drive down/install right now, but if you can meet up with boeingguy (a NC member on here) for the install, I will ship it down to him.
You can PM me/boeingguy with your cell # if you wish.

I'd be pretty surprised if any Chrysler dealership will honor that recall. In all likelyhood they'll tell you that the pump is NLA and they can't/won't help you. I had a similar experience with a really simple 2000 Jeep Cherokee recall. $2 part was NLA and they wouldn't honor the recall.
If you can't make any of the previously mentioned pump options work out I wouldn't haul the truck to the crusher. They'll give you $100 for it. Consider selling it as is. If its not a complete rust bucket you should be able to get $1000-$2000 for it. Probably more if it is 4x4 and in decent shape. Take the money you get from it and buy a pre-1997 F150 or F250 with a straight 6 and manual trans. Parts sre cheap and plentiful. Junk yards are full of them. The 4.9 motor is reliable and easy to work on. Good luck with it.
