VE Pump Help
I just got my pump rebuilt. The rebuilder has it locked down to match TDC on the engine. If I barr the engine over TDC , then the keyway won't line up with the pump. Can I just unlock, and turn the pump shaft to line up with gear? Or is it possible to be off one revolution? What gives? Can someone help ASAP

So you have the engine at TDC with the pin and the keyway doesn't line up? Is that correct?
Which way is the keyway clocked on the pump in its locked state?
And where is the key slot in the gear clocked at when at TDC?

Just line the key and key way up, loosen the IP lock and rotate the shaft and install. The IP does not need any special timing.
When you are barring the motor, are you moving it much, or just a little back and forth? If your moving it full revolutions I'd be afraid that the IP timing gear might jump a tooth or two, or three....
Your timing that you have to be concerned with is the gears in the timing case. If that IP gear has jumped you'll have issues with the truck either not starting, or running poorly.

The IP does not need any special timing.
If you are installing a rebuilt or new pump, the pump should come to you locked with the appropriate amount of advance before top dead center. You set the engine to TDC, then install the pump, lining up the key & and pulling the top of the pump toward the head to take up any lash in the gear train. After installing the pump, you are supposed to mark the timing case to correspond with the mark cast into the pump mounting flange.
If you are simply reinstalling a pump with no molestation, you can simply install it unlocked & then line up the flange & case marks, assuming they were marked correctly before disassembly, and you will have the same timing as before the pump was removed.

Ok I got it running, and it runs good. I had to barr the engine over a full round, and turn the pump shaft quite a bit to make it line up. No my engine was not set to TDC. All that talk about TDC is bs, just line up the keyway, and your good. Thanks again to those that tried to help me.

Alec...I do agree with your statments and they are valid, but those are only if you are truly concerned with having it set at the factory settings, and if you desire to have your case marked as original.
The motor will still fire and run even if you don't follow factory procedure.
Loudhorn....glad you got it going!
