Vacum Pump Help
Vacum Pump Help
Hi all Looking for confirmation of some information I've found in prior threads.
I have a 1992 Cummins Turbo Diesel 4X4 with intercooler. All stock except bullydog fuel pin.
While I had my Vacum pump out when I replaced the PS pump. I cleaned it before reinstallation. AHA it leaks. Go figure........
The info I would like to confirm that the vacum pump rebuild kit cummins part # 4089742 and the O-ring # 3048182. Is this all I need to rebuild/reseal the vacum pump on my 92 cummins? If I can't get the parts through my local cummins dealer I'll call CumminsCrosspoint, Ky I have the #.

Having also turning the wheel back and forth lock to lock while the wheels were off the ground. Steering is still stiff as a board. IE the gearbox is bad correct ??? Just want opinions before I pull it. Have read all previous threads regarding this. So this is my conclusion. Just looking for confirmation... Thanks to all, Ron

http://www.fixinrams.com/ try this guy he is easy to deal with .
I bought a vacuum pump re-seal kit off e-bay. Very easy to find and think I only paid $25 for the kit, and it was in the cummins packaging. Only 3 O-rings I believe to re-seal the vacuum pump. Be very careful when installing the case into the coupler...I wrecked my O-ring and was lucky to find one that worked down at the jobber.
If you installed a new PS pump, and your wheels are still hard to turn then you either have an air lock in the system, or the gear box is toast.

Sorry, can't confirm the Cummins pare numbers. I used the Gould Gear guy as well - found him on ebay at the time.
I used his rebuild kit as well as the replacement vanes. His rebuild kit also comes with a DVD. It's a piece of cake to rebuild the pump, almost felt sheepish and watching his video... http://www.fixinrams.com/ goes by "ramtrans1" on ebay ...
fully rebuilt pump for $85 bucks (both rebuild and vane kit) and a couple hours of my time

Hi All, Thanks, I checked out his site. Looks Like the way to go to reseal the pump. It's just leaking some oil. Not bad but a steady leak.
Sounds like my gearbox is toast. I think I'll get a rebuild kit and rebuild it. To many horror storys on the jobbers just fixin tonly whats wrong and not rebuilding the whole unit.
Any advice on this ? Thanks, Ron
