Upper Radiator Seal

So back when I did the fluidamper install, and timing cover gasket I pulled the rad out, and busted that factory flapper seal thing, on top of the core support that covers the gap between the support and rad. Any way, I had been kind of casually looking for one, when I came across one on eBay for the earlier gas motor trucks, it was listed as new, made out of rubber....

Now that was about a month ago, the seller is Detroit Muscle Technologies, up in Warren MI. I sent a messege asking if they had them for my 92. I received a reply the next day from Jim up there at DMT, he said he didn't have them for the IC first gens, and asked if I could send him a picture of mine, Well I sent him a picture of what I had left, and some rough measurements.

His response was asking if I could send him the piece of mine, which I gladly did, I received the new one from him yesterday and got it installed, even came with new little plastic push pins.. Fits pretty good. He is working on the front fender to frame rail splash guards as well.

I did look at his website earlier and saw that he now has them listed for sale.

My disclaimer: I HAVE NO STAKE IN DETROIT MUSCLE TECHNOLOGIES, and WILL NOT GAIN ANY THING FROM SALES OF THIS PRODUCT IF THEY EVEN SELL!!!! I just know how hard it is to find parts for these old trucks and thought I would share what I came up with.

Now before and after...

Looks good!! I had thought about doing something similar to yours.

Was still trying to decide how to do it, when I came across this guy. He sells the rubber in in rolls of different lengths as well, I decided if he didn't have one made I'd buy the rubber and cut one out myself.

But when he was interested in manufacturing them, I figured it could be a good situation for every one in the future.

As for the Engine to frame splash guards, I ordered a set from LMC Truck, perfect fit. They also have the clips if needed.

LMC also has three of four different configs for the Rad seal but none are called out for the 5.9 setup.

The material they use is called masticated rubber, I bought some years ago to make new fender well and rad seals for my D700, here is one place that sells it.

Steele Rubber Products - Masticated sheet. Sold only in multiples of 1 by 4 foot to a maximum of 5 by 4 foot.

Yes, I've been in contact with Jim at DMT, actually text back and forth with him to day. To let him know how the rad seal fit.

He asked me if it would fit the non ic motors as well. Which I didn't know. So if some one has a good picture of the upper rad seal on a non ic they would like to post or pm me I can forward it on to him and he will make it also.

And on he frame splash shield, he is not sure if he has the driver side cut right yet, and is interested in obtaining some good pictures of it as well. Untill I can pull mine and send to him.

Non IC trucks don't have them.

I texted with Jim today, and am sending him my frame splash shields from my 1993 D250 donor truck so he can reproduce them.

Jim
I asked about the blend door seals, this was his response. "

"I'm sure he's talking about that molded foam door. No. I can't do that BUT I may look into it cause so many people ask."

I didnt think the door was foam, but I have never been into it yet. If that isn't what your talking about please clarify and I'll get back to him.

The door isn't foam. It is metal but has a foam seal around it.
