Turbo replacement

I have seen the exhaust housing on my 89 CTD leaking a little bit of oil here and there and I thought about putting a replacement.
I found this https://www.buyautoparts.com/buynow/...er/40-30224_AN and thought about using it in place of mine maybe use my exhaust housing if it doesn't match but seemed like a good idea instead of rebuilding it with new bearings myself and wonder if it really stayed balanced. What do You all think?

Thanks in advance

Why not go with an upgrade? I have a wH1c which has a wastegate and an upgraded compressor. Because of the turbine it spools faster. Before I replaced my IP it was really turned up and my EGT's were way high. I got the wH1c and a boost controller to set my boost at 35 psi or so and brought my EGT's down to a more reasonable level.

The stock turbo on the 89 is just not adequate if you're planning to turn up the fuel. IMHO

Wh1c or HX35

I don't run with the truck, I work it and the boost is really fine though I did turn up the fuel just a little. I'm not sure but I believe the previous owner installed a smaller exhaust housing when he installed the Banks intercooler, I remember someone saying they came together. HX35 If it doesn't require a whole mess of changes I can do it otherwise the truck really has all the power I need it to have. Please keep the advise coming.

Btw, on the picture is that a pirate boat metaphor?

I think the picture is of a Chinese "junk" ... perhaps eluding to the Chinese junk of a turbo that is listed in the link

That being said I did not click on the link and I know very little about turbos... but sometimes I'm pretty sharp on quips and metaphors

It is a Chinese Junk.
I wouldn't trust it as far as i could throw it.
Since you are intercooled It should be a pretty easy swap. You may have to change some boots and intake tubing. but nothing that cant be done with ordinary hand tools.

Here is where I got all my silicone boots and aluminum tubing.

Intercooler Pipe Fabrication

Thank You and I agree china made products are some times really bad and a turbocharger is not an area I want to test them on. What if I just want the same turbo but just the cartridge so I can put my exhaust and compressor housing on it, where can I get one that is of acceptable quality?

I don't know about rebuilders. I rebuilt my own HX35 hybrid . Try to find a local pump shop with a good reputation. Whoever does it make sure they use genuine Holset parts.

You should be able to find an HX35 pretty cheap. An overhaul kit is cheap and fairly easy to install. The only other thing you will need to do to install an HX35 is slide the exhaust down pipe back a little. All in all, not a difficult job. There are also upgrades for the HX when you get board with it.

Thanks guys here's a picture of what I have I would like to just get a cartridge of the same thing so I don't have to rebuild it I read somewhere that it has to be balanced and I have no way to do that if I rebuild it but if I get a cartridge I just have to put in the housings on both ends and I'm done right.https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.die...69185dca59.jpg

They don't need to be re balanced if all Holset parts are used. the individual parts are balanced. I have never heard of any problems from not balancing one. I didn't balance mine and have had no problems in close to 5000 miles. NJTman probably has more than that on his and he built pretty close to the same turbo I built for mine. IIRC both are 60mm compressors T man's turbine housing is 16cm and mine is 12 with the Getrag.

Thanks guys, I like the Joe Dirt pic, thats a funny movie.
That being said, I work my truck and do not spin the tires unless the truck is pulling something or its stuck and I need to put it in 4wd haha.
I read the turbo rebuild thread and I thought the thread starter was specific about putting the compressor wheel back on the exact same spot so I thought why the heck take a chance, if that is not the case then I can pull it apart and rebuild the turbo myself. Where should I purchase a rebuild kit for mine? Anyone familiar with the model I have?
Btw the turbo is the same way I got it with the banks intercooler kit, does the exhaust housing look any different than stock?

Thanks.
