transfer case onto 2wd trans

How hard a swap is it? Just bolt on? Or do parts need changed inside? How much disassembly if so?

Pretty sure you have to pull the trans completely apart, if I remember, the planetary is attached to the output shaft, so you are at the last part pulled when you disassemble the trans.

OTOH, it would be a good time to bulletproof it!

For $300 for an 80,000 mile transmission that was in a truck that was bought for the body, vs $2,000 for a rebuild, it'll have to get the shaft swapped and run as it is. Or just run it as a 2wd for a while.

If it's an OD 518 all you need to change is the OD unit. If it's a 3 speed 727 you'll have to change the output shaft and extension housing.

DUH........ Why didn't I realize that?

Sorry NE, AJ is right, if it is the OD version, it is a straight swap for the OD unit.
