Trading a 93 5spd for a 92 automatic, help please..

Hey everyone,
I'm considering trading my Cummins 93 4x4 5spd extra cab dually for a Cummins 92 4x4 automatic extra cab non dually. The reason for the trade is that I don't need a dually at all. I know the 5spd's are highly sought after and I love mine. The 92 has 140,000 original miles on it and the rear main seal was just replaced.
I guess my questions are: How reliable are the Automatic's and are there any major known issues I should be concerned about?
I won't be towing huge loads, mainly hauling wood and dirtbikes.
Thanks for your time. Atom...

The auto's are good when they are built right. The worst part of the auto is the converter.

The truck you have is the baddest first gen made in many peoples eyes. Depending on the miles and conditions of the two trucks you truck is probably worth a bit more than the truck you will be getting.

Yeah, don't do a straight trade, that's for sure. Heck, it'd be cheaper to just convert your truck to SRW if you really don't want a dually. I bet there's quite a few guys willing to swap beds, axles etc plus some cash. You'd make out on the deal

I would swap your truck over to Single axle.

Your truck being a Club cab 4x4 Dually 5spd is considered the holy grail of 1st gens

Keep your truck and change to SRW wheels. A set of hummer wheels (or something similarly backspaced) should do the job.

Thanks

Thanks for the response everyone,
I don't have the money or time to convert my truck to SRW. It also needs other work done to it. The engine and body are fine but it needs a bit of work on the interior and a few other things. The 92 Auto that I would trade for is basically perfect. No work needed at all. Pimped out.
I know I have a great rare truck. I just can't afford to do the work needed to make it really nice.
Am I still an idiot to trade it for the perfect (relative terms) auto 92?
Thanks, Atom...

I'd keep the one you got. Just fix her up a little at a time.

My dad used to have a 92 reg cab 2wd auto. And he lost OD a lot. The first time it lasted till 350000km. But after that it was like every 125- 150km he had it in the trans shop fixing the OD He didn't do much towing with it just our summer trips hauling the camper up north but it was his daily driver to work. He did put 80000km on a year though.
Just my 2 cents
