TPS Help please!

My TPS is bad... I think.

When I un plug the TPS itself, I have 5.32 volts on the wire closest to the cab... 1 volt to the wire in the center and 0 on the wire towards the radiator. This is with it NOT plugged in and taking readings off the plug.

With it plugged in I get 0 at 'idle' and .22 vlts @ full open throttle.

Is it the TPS or is there another problem somewhere?

Thanks
Mark

It could just need cleaned. Are you sure you have a good connection between it and your meter? Mine was acting up when my OD problems started and while that was not my OD problem, it still needed cleaned. I sprayed it full of contact cleaner and then worked it back and forth several times, then put it back in its original position and it gave the right readings.

I've cleaned the holy hanna out of it.

Still no dice.

I am off to Auto Zone to see if I can possibly convert this thing to a 3.0 litre TPS off a dynasty.

35$ part vs 300$ sounds like it might be worth the effort.

There's a link in the sticky about doing just that.

The dynasty TPS has a different plug.

Is there something I am missing?

Missed the 'need plug from gasser'

Anyone know if there is a part number floating around for the plug for this sensor?

Or you can do the conversion to a potentiometer using Radio Shack parts.

Any auto parts store will have a pigtail that fits, it's a pretty standard weatherpack connector.

With a potentiometer it kicks out of O/D Automatically... wherever YOU set it.

Go to the sticky, "How do I..." which is the first thread of the main page for the 1st Gen trucks, and go to the drivetrain title: the second thread is about how to replace the TPS with a potentiometer. I did it myself and did not even break a nail...

I just did it over the Holidays. About $15 at Radio Shack and away I went. It made me giggle like a school girl when I got it dialed in and it worked so well.

Here ya' go:
Replacing the TPS with a potentiometer:

Another writeup, but with pics:

The guy at RS very cautiously asked what I was doing with all my misc. stuff. As I picked my bag up off the counter I said "building a death ray!!" and just walked out the door. They might not let me in again, but it was worth it.
