tps help

Well last night I went to the drag races in Portland Oregon. Had a real good time racing except for the fact that the old girl would not go into O.D at full throttle.I believe that I have read where people have wired in a switch for overdrive to bypass the tps. can someone enlighten me on this.by the way, I ran a 15.15 in the 1/4 with no overdrive.at 90 mph.stock transmission and all.

Thank's. Tim

The tps is adjustable. At least the machine screw in the bottom of the actuator where it fits in the throttle is adjustable. There are two flats on the plastic tps actuator that a 11 mm open end wrench fits. If I remember right rotate the actuator clockwise a couple degrees and see if that allows the OD to come in. A little adjustment goes a long way. There is a good write up in the tech section on this forum on the proper way to do it using a volt meter. I am trying to fine tune mine as I drive it by trial and error. I went from OD not wanting to come in to in all the time just by twisting the screw. I think I got the sweet spot now but I am never satisfied. Gotta keep messing. [whistle]

Ya I have adjusted the tps on a number of occasions, but it allways seems to change for some reason. the trans. goes into o.d just fine, till I put the go padal to the floor from a dead stop and hold it there. that is when it doesnt want to go into o.d. we'll have to see what an 89% lock-up converter and valve body does for it.thank's for the reply Boatnik

Well there are only 2 wires going into the tranny at the connector behind the linkage. One 12V hot, and one ground supplied when going into OD. Just switch a ground to that wire via a toggle inside the cab.

If the problem is at WOT then you can try tweaking the throttle valve cable a bit....move it rearward just a tad...say, 1/8" max then try that.
It sounds like the trans isn't 'seeing' WOT position and moving the TVC will tell it that the thing is WOT....

The problem I have with my TPS is that since I removed the hi idle screw and bent my gas pedal for max throttle travel, the TPS goes out of range. The throttle has more movement than the TPS can read.

I mounted a headlight dimmer swtich on the floor and use it to ground the OD selonid. When I want OD I just tap the switch with my foot.

Thank's for all the replies guy's. I'll try the adjustment on the cable first. If that dont work it's getting a switch. [laugh]
