TPS again

I've fiddled around with the adjustment, it shifts fine going through the gears but won't stay in OD. Actually on some trips it works great(not very often!). Most of the time it will drop out of OD at random, probably not to good for the trans at 70 mph. I've noticed that when it's acting up it will stay in OD while giving it some throttle,as in slight grades, driving level terrain or going downhill it will shift in and out of OD randomly. Is there anything besides the TPS that can be doing this? Or, is it time to dump the TPS and do the Potentiometer conversion?

Thanks

Sound slike it is out of adjustement, and if you have already checked that, then it could be dirty or just worn out.
ther eare instructions for cleaning the TPS in teh stickey, but I would recommend installing the POT and be done with it.

Brick, I fought this exact problem for quite a while. I would adjust it (with the Snap On scanner) in the shop and on the road. I would get it right on and after a random amount of miles or days, OD would just drop off and disappear. Sometimes within 5 miles, sometimes it would go weeks. Turned out to be in the connector, where the wire meets the metal pin (solder joint).
For some reason the plastic connector housing must be slid over the wire before the pins that are attatched to the harness. This makes it difficult to re-solder the pins to the wires. I found that a 2nd gen TPS plug is almost identical. I found one at a bone yard and cut the harness back about a foot, then replaced the last 6" or so of my TPS connecter harness. The colors are not the same, but position and functions are.

What throws me is that some trips it works great(good adjustment?) and later the same day it doesn't. I'll try cleaning it but I see a POT in the near future. It's a drag driving in 3rd with the pedal mashed to the floor - makes my leg tired too! As far as the connector goes, how do you check that?
