tourque converter???

my truck is a 93 auto and I am pulling the trans to do a shift kit, TC, and main seals.

I would like as many opinions on aftermarket TCs as I can get.

I dont want it too tight because i do alot of driving on icy roads in the winter, just tighter than stock for some extra mileage and better acceleration.

please share your opinions on tourque converters and shift kits that you have all tried with the A518 / A618.

your input is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I've used TransGo kits on my own when it was an auto, and a few friends Dodge's with pretty good results. It definitely firms up the shifts.

Not sure about the converters.

I have a Suncoast in mine and have found it to be a little tight on slick roads but not bad now that I know what to expect.

Dave Goerend is the man you want to talk to about a Dodge transmission. He is difficult to get ahold of, but has by far the best customer service, and product out there.

thanks guys, can anyone suggest what (advertised) stall would work best to kindof split the difference having good coupling on the street and still maintaining a alittle "slush" on icy roads?...

a locking TC and 47rh would be the best, but $$$$ are getting harder to save.

thanks again.

"Mad Max" has a DTT 89% (I think) converter in his truck, and loves it.

So yes, they are also recommended for these old ladies.

I'm running DTT. I filled out a questionaire and they sent the correct torque converter and shift kit for my set up. It can't get any easier than that.

same.

Goerend's upgrade converter (which is awesome) is $550 with a 100,000 mile warranty and $650 with an unlimited warranty.

Goerend's other non-lock converter is $950 and I believe it is VERY VERY tight and may even be a "multi-disk". Its for guys with upgraded transmission hard parts.

My dad loves the goerend stuff in his 05 and I've seen alot of guys get the $550 Goerend 518 converter and were thrilled.

Best thing to do is get a hold of Dave and talk to him about what you do, Tell him you drive on icey roads and stuff and i bet he'll make you a custom converter to your application.

Yea,

Try to avoid the Hughes, TCI, summit and other "low end" Diesel converters they make for non lock, just because they're $300 don't get tempted. They most likely will not hold alot of power.

A TCI or one of the cheaper converters is fine in a stock truck if you just want to get rid of the factory crappy one and pick up some MPG's/towing power

Over stock power levels you should just buy a good one.

good info guys...

I know theres lots of different ways to define stall speed, but im thinking the 1400 stall is good for my application, seeing that the stock one is about 1700.

anybody drove thier truck on icy roads with this range of converter?

lots of subjectivity here, but I assume you guys up north know what Im going through on this decision.

thanks all...
