Torque converters
 

Just had the tranny rebuilt and had a stock style torque put back in. I was looking for an upgrade to the non lock up torque and wondered where to go for a good one that will last and hook up better??? My dad just doesn't like that spinning feeling and not moving like it should. :(

That is a real bummer you got it all the way back together, it only takes a few seconds to change the TC when the trans is out. If you do swap it out make sure you get the second gen flex plate too.

For under 350 horsepower, get a Hughes for $400; for over 350 horsepower, get a Goerend Brothers, DTT, ATS or Suncoast for $800+.

I have a Hughes converter and, IMO, it is worth the money (its the cheapest aftermarket unit around). I paid about $360 including all shipping. At the time, they had no cores to build, so I needed to send mine down to AZ to have it built. The Hughes does not move mountains; the transmission is still not good for towing, but it has been a significant improvement. The gen 2 flexplate is about $120, maybe a little less.

The gen 2 flex better too? Haven't heard that one yet. Yeah, my dad was saying after it was put back together he wished he would of got a torque, I was looking at suncoast for about $683.00. Guess he'll have to do it later. Just cost more. 2nd gen flex ring gear good with the 1st gen starter then also??

No problems there, they are the same thing only the 2nd gen flex plate is shot peened for better durability and the material might be different too.
1st gen flex plates are known to crack or rip the centers out, especially when the coals are turned to them.
