tire size?

ok, since I'm waiting on my getrag parts, I got to looking at other things to spend $$ on and I'm thinking of some new skins. Yeah, the po put new tires on--235-75-16's!!! The poor thing looks like a half ton!!! What I want is that cool tall skinny old 3/4 1ton truck look---will the factory 235-85's get me there, or do I need taller yet? I've looked through all the members photos (all 60 pages ) but not everyone lists tire info. So, if your first gen's got the 'look' I'm after, let me know what size tire you're running. Thanks!

I am running 255-85r16 and like them. They are a little taller (about 33") than the 235/85r16.

Before you put taller tires on her better check to see if the front springs are not sagging. sure would not like to see you shave the brand new tires down to the nub.

thanks for the replies! I didn't know there was a 255 85---sounds like what I'm after. the springs seem pretty good for such an old truck-i'd say i've got 4 inches or so from the bump stops to the springs. my old w-150 had about 3/4''!!

Running 285/75R16, load range D's, about 32" tall, no rub problems.......would have preferred load range E's, but couldn't find them except in a shorter size...don't haul too heavy anymore........

wv smoker,
Are those the tires that are on the truck in your gallery? That's a great looking truck! Wish I had the stock steelies and trim rings--they just work on the older trucks for some reason.

Yes, same as picture, I think they are Remington brand tires, made by General Tire I think? They ride fairly well if you don't air them up too high, do well in the snow, not very good in mud......but they are highway M/S tire and are quiet on the road.......

I stuck with the 235/85s until I find different rims. The 265/75s (same heighth) just seemed to pinched in at the rim.

The 235/85Es I have measures right at 32" tall mounted. Got them at the local Coop.
Country Squire RT, made by Kelly tire by per the DOT serial# lookup.

I'm running 265/75R 16 D rated in stock steel rims. They look and work great.
No rubbing problems at all with stock original springs all around.
Right now I'm running Yokohama HT-S on the front, and just put on studded Cooper Discoverer M&S on the rear for winter.

BTW the 265/75 are the same diameter as the stock 235/85 I had from the PO.

Greg,

I'm still running the 235 85 16's but will switch to the 265 75 16's next time around.

Here's a good place to shop and see what the tire owners think of their purchases...
