Timing

Alright guys, I'm in the process of bumping my timing. I loosened the 3 bolts on the pump that bolt it to the timing cover, and also the bolt on the back side that bolts it to a bracket. Now the question is, how do I move the pump. I pushed on it and also hit it with a rubber mallet. It just wont budge. Have I missed something? Any help is appreciated guys

Have you pulled out the AFC banjo bolt? That'll hang up the pump big time.

Top of the pump towards the back. It's a 12mm bolt going through banjo fitting.

Pull that out and I bet things move much easier. You will have to bend the line a little to get it put back together because the AFC housing will be closer to the head.

And use the ratchet strap technique to pull it over toward the head!!

(I.E. attach a ratchet strap to teh AFC housing and to the alternator bracket, or other sturdy object of your choice, and ratchet the pump over. The credit for this handy idea goes to DODGE 92! Original Post )

Yep. You could just hear 1st genners across the nation slapping their foreheads and yelling "Why didn't I think of that!?" at the computer screen when he posted that. That's what I did, anyway...

Thanks for the help guys! I used the strap technique and it worked great! Truck idles purty dang smooth now and has a little more giddy-up from the line. Once again, thanks for the help!
