Time for a new survey
SO HOW MUCH WILL THE GETRAG HOLD UP TOO
The debate continues, so i thout that we should do a survey to see how much power has been put into your getrag, after rebuild(up dated seals and parts exc.) and how long thay have held up w/what power level and miles!
Sence the PO keep such good records, i will start!
Tranny rebuilt at 163,170 miles(truck kept compleatly stock,till i bought it with 186,481.)
up to that point it was used for pullling his 5th wheel trailer!
I started learing how to and have added a lot of power to my truck. A lot real isn't that much.......probably from the stock 160 horse to maybe, 190 now. I have no idea how much torque.
I first steped of the slope at 200,352.00 and now have
219,872!

My 92 w350 has probably 230k+ (guessing my odometer quit around180k) I bought the truck with 167k on it and have used it on our farm and doing some hauling for others. 10k + is not unusual and I have not had any trouble. Also a friend of mine who is fairly mechanically astute and has been known to really use a truck loves the getrag, works good for me, knock on wood!

Well, I'm happy to report that even though my pilot bushing was all but missing
the input shaft on the 'rag is fine, as well as the rest of the tranny---it still feels just as tight as the day I put it together

C'mon guys, this still won't be enough to stop those naysayers that overheated or ran their Getrags dry to stop dissin' this fine piece of automotive engineering! -- That won the unlimited class in some Utah drags recently with a bad shift fork, no less!!

I sent both my getrags packing. One actually scattered and the other was making so much noise it was ready to blow when I pulled it. they both had plenty of fluid in them.
The one that actually scattered was in my service truck. It weighs between 10 and 11K. Im guessing the HP is at about 190, the other one made it to about 300 HP briefly.
I will stay with my NV4500 in 1 truck and the NV5600 in the other.

Something else to consider when asking the original question, though admittedly not related directly to the original question is: How much power will the 'rag hold and at what cost? Just browsing the quad4x4 site this AM, I noticed the conversion kit approaching 5k. Used 5600's are pushing 3k and that's just for a tranny that will not accept our stock clutch (the early ones do, I guess) The 5600? Gone. Somewhat difficult to find parts for and definitely pricey when you do find them. The teardown jig for the 5600 looks more complicated than the 205 t-case I have apart on the bench!
The 4500 requires a mainshaft update right off the bat (included with quad$ price, I think) and the cast iron overdrive housing is another concern/cost. The way it looks from here, the average first genner (myself included) is budget minded and is often not equipped with the cash on hand for a huge purchace like a 4500/5600 conversion. With prices for 'rag pieces falling well into the reasonable range, there is almost no way a conversion could break even inside of 5-6 years, even if the 'rag puked every 18 months. (not including the cost of heartache, of course)
If the same tranny can be 'scattered' by 190hp on one truck and hold 600+hp to the rear wheels on another, I have to suspect some amount of human error at one point...
