time for a new GOV spring?
time for a new GOV spring?
my 93 has had rock solid 750 rpm idle since the day I bought it three years ago and 75000 miles ago.
last night while on the freeway, I noticed a bit of surging, kind of like a gasser will do when not jetted correctly. then it seemed to go away.
when I get home I always let it idle for a bit before shutting down cause its quite a clime in elevation to get there... but this time, it idles at 1000 rpm.
this morning, cold. still idles at 1000. drive to work and sitting in the parking lot, idle is wandering all over 1000 -1200. even surges up to 2000 and hangs for a second, then back to 1000.
Ive never touched any of the adjustments because the PO really set it up nice and it worked perfect.
does the 3200 spring wear out after some time?
can the full power or idle screw change? I havent reached back to check the locknuts yet, its been dark.
just wanted to get some opinions.
thanks in advance,
Justin

I did jiggle the throttle linkage and the arm is bottoming out ok on the pump. Ill totally disconnect linkage tonight and play with it, but it seems the same as before.
Im going to see if I can adjust the idle stop screw, but it sure acts like a governer problem. if it was the idle screw, it wouldnt be hunting like it does.

could be a possibility. a broken or missing flyweight, to me, seems like it would make the motor act like it wants to runaway. makes sense to me that one less weight would equal less pressure against the governor sleeve, which moves the lever connected to the metering sleeve on the plunger. in turn, allowing a longer stroke before the spill port on the plunger is exposed from under the metering sleeve.

I messed with it last night, and the idle adjustment does not let it idle any lower.
I backed off the power screw about 1 turn and drove it. after a few blocks it would barely run when in gear and nutral would idle about 750. also couldnt get above 1000F on the EGT.
pulled it backin the garage and slowly turned up the power screw until it would idle about 750 in gear.
so the total change was about 1/4 turn out on the power screw. and now it runs just great without seeming unstable at all. weird.
what could have changed? will the idle spring do this?
thanks.
