Talk turbos to me

Hi all it's been a while. Well I picked up a new to me '93 w250 and am pulling a few things off my D250 before I put it up forsale.

I'd like to hear you turbo gurus input on is what I should do with the turbo. The d250 has a HX35W12cm2 on it with the wastegate welded shut. Needless to say I love it on the d250 and it runs great however in the new w250 I'm planning on doing more towing. The new w250 has a 16cm2 on it with the original turbo, POD's, and I'm moving my BHAF to it along with installing a 4" exhaust.

So am I better off moving the HX35 to the w250 and leaving the 16cm or should I move the whole thing 12cm2 and all or leave it all alone. It's my (not so great) understanding the 16cm is better for towing apps but I'm needing some advice. I'll sitback now and wait for you to expand my knowledge. Thanks!

for towing i'd probably put the HX35 with the 16cm on the w250 and put the stock turbo with the 12cm on the d250. With the 12cm the one on the d250 will still be better than stock when you go to sell it, and you have the best of both worlds for your truck. i don't think the d250 would really bring any more with the HX35 on there.

The 12 cm is gonna be too small with the POD's. I like the plan of switching the HX-35 and leaving the turbine housings where they are.

I agree. If you are towing 16 will move more air and will be better for EGT's.

Thanks all. Made the swap today and it's running much better. Was able to pull 30psi boost plus I got the singing turbo back

Now for that 4" exhaust and I will be set!

Good luck with the truck. Sounds like you got a real nice one.
