Tach wireing question.

he OEM factory tachometer plug offers the following:

- 18ga Black = +12vdc for gage lights
- 20ga Orange = 12vdc Common
- 18ga Red = Switched +12vdc
- 20ga Grey w/light blue tracer = Tachometer Signal From PCM

Is the Orange wire a ground? Is that what common means? The orange wire on my truck has no power with the ignition on or off. Maybe this is a dumb question but I don't want to screw anything up.

I'm sorry, I didn't READ your post completely.

In this application, Common is another term for -12vdc ground. With that, the orange will not have power.

Orange is for the lights. Dash lights, radio lights, tach light, etc.
