STOP Repair Bills....humm sounds fishy

I just got off the phone with this guy named TIM, he was VERY anxious to sell me this auto repair insurance at a drop of the hat.

he quoted me $2300 for complete drive train coverage,
Thats, Engine, trans and drive axles 4x4 and water pump and anything in between those parts, drive shafts, u-joints etc.

He also told me that its a 5 year 100k mile warranty and it comes with $100 deductible.
Also that it required an initial payment of $395 (thats $400 to the rest of us)
and only 12 monthly payments of $203 to pay off the complete package.
Thats $2830 total for the 5 year plan and they cover basically everything.

What threw me was the INSTANT phone call and wanting INSTANT payment... didn't even get a chance to get in the shower after i clicked send on the form on their website...THATS FAST!!! (stoprepairbills.com)

Has anybody used this company or have anything similar?
Are you satisfied with your purchase??
It seems like a lot of money, and more than i would pay for another truck or most parts if something went bad (i'd fix it my self)

The only thing i see going bad in that time frame would be the trans and the rear ;-)

I have a few friends who own repair shops and they are ASE certified (required by their program) he could help me out when it came to fixing the trans or replacing the "posi" rear...

For the money im shelling out i could have gotten a performance torque converter,... trans shift kit...., posi rear...., and maybe even a trans rebuilt if i dropped it off on their table for them.

Just trying to get a second, third, fourth.... im sure i'll get many opnions here, which is EXACTLY what i'd like

Thanks!!!

THANKS Subliminal!!

After 20 minutes on the complaints board...

45 seconds on the BBB site

and

another 15 minutes on rip off report dot com

thanks again!!! i was SURE but only so . much lol

I knew by the haste in his voice that he was going in for the kill and I PLAYED ALONG!!! making it even better for ME... then i answered him "yes you caught me at a bad time, im standing naked in the hall about to get in the shower and go out to dinner... so no now wouldn't be a good time for me to get my credit card, its rather cold in this old house and i have to go. Next time give me more than 2 or 3 minutes between when i hit the send button and you call. i wasn't expecting a phone call so quickly, i feel like im talking to my exgirlfriend, whats your number so i can call you back..."

No answer and repeated that this was a limited offer and if i were to hang up that would be it... lol

it cost almot $2000 to EXTEND my warranty for bumper to bumper on my brand new car from 3/36,000 to 5/100,000. If they offer an ADDITIONAL 5/100,000 on a 20 year old truck... then there is a catch!

Just like Casino's are not built to give away money.

i agree, for the amount and what could "go wrong" it isn't worth it. Although i do believe i would have a HARD time getting anything from them if I BROKE it and it didn't fail because of manufacturers defects....as most warrantys describe.

Even if this offer was legit, it's too much money. You say you can do the work yourself, and you should be able to buy a pretty good parts truck for a lot less than $2300.

Yeah, once he told me that i was done, just didn't have anything else better to do than argue with him

Someone else named mike, this time (guy sounded the same but went by TIM last time) called me during work and wouldn't get off the phone. I wasn't too terribly busy and wanted to take a break anyways. Kept telling me at what a deal this was and how i wouldn't have to pay for anything that breaks in the next 5 years or 100,000 miles and since i only average 30k a year i wouldn't go over it....

Me: i interrupted him and said, correction i would drive through the warrenty just under 3 years because i only told you how long my commute was each day, i do go other places than work... moment of silence so i continued talking ...for $2800 i could buy another truck with a working transmission and rear end and swap it in myself...

Mike: then he chimed in, well what if the engine goes, that could be $5000 or more...

Me: i cut him off, saying the engine is the only part of this truck that i expect to last. He seemed to be lost now and went back to his origional method.

Mike: "you know 200 a month isn't much for the peace at mind you have knowing you will get a rental car and we will fix your truck for you and you won't miss any work because of it. Also if you think about it what is $100 deductible for a new engine, transmission or rear end... i cut him off again.

Me: thats it right there ITS NOT JUST 100 dollars, its 2800 dollars and you want an additional 100 everytime something needs to be fixed on my truck, so its closer to 3grand now. By the way did i tell you im not interested any more?

mike: No, but..

Me: Sorry but i'm not interested, i'll take my chances, since i do most of the repair work my self and i don't break to many parts i think i'll be fine.

Mike: But....

Me: But nothing and i hung up

haven't heard back from them yet but from what i read on those website i should be getting another phone call or two.

I have had that call before but just one time. Here is how the conversation went to the best of my memory which is failing.

Them...we have the best warranty since sliced bread was invented.

Me...I have no interest

Them...that is unbelievable as everyone is interested. We can save you money.

Me...then you pay for the warranty as that would save me 2000 right up front.

Them...no we can save you in repair bills.

Me..Ok I have some questions. Are you self insured or insured by a rated insurance company.

Them...um we are with a rated insurance co.

Me..who and can you send my a copy of your insurance certificate?

Them...no I cannot do that but we never have had an issue.

Me..neither did the other warranty companies until they went bankrupt.

Them...sir I assure you we are not going bankrupt.

Me..So we can see that in writing then?

Them...No I am not allowed to.

Me..Ok we on to your coverage..New or used parts?

Them..well that depends on the repair

Me...why?

Them..Depends on if we are a supplier for that part

Me.. You mean it means used parts and you can supply them from a junk yard 3000 miles away while you tie my truck up?

Them...We move as fast as possible.

Me...Do I have to pay the repair up front..

Them..No sir we pay with a credit card on the spot

Me..Is that before or after you send a guy with no clue to diagnose if it was failure or neglect?

Them...We hardly ever do that

Me...Only on the larger claims which is all you said you cover?

Them...We are a bumper to bumper warranty

Me...There is no such thing. The term should never be used.

Them..No we are.

Me..Do you cover windshield wipers?

Them...no sir

Me..are they not located between the bumpers?

Them..Yes sir they are but they are a wear item

Me..Like pistons?

Them..We replace pistons

Me..Do they not wear out like wipers?

Them..Only if there is an oil problem

Me..So you have never seen a motor just plain wear out?

Them..well I guess it could

Me..I would think it could

Them...It would be covered though

Me..even though it wore out or does the oil pump have to fail first?

Them..I am not sure on that I would have to check

Me..Son how long you been doing this

Them..a year

Me..I have been master certified in Chrysler and Ford warranties for 15 years. How long do you have that we can chat about this?

Them...I have to be going.

Me..Hey don't go yet I was just warming up. Give me your home number and I will ring you back tonight.

Them..Sir I cannot give out my home number

Me..why not? You called me at my home number?

Them...click

Nice, you kinda sound like me when OTHER people call my number... haven't had a home phone in 5 years so i lost out on a little bit of fun

I also like how everyone has a "bumper to bumper" warrenty until something breaks.

Like my girlfriends brakes in her explorer... THEY REMOVED THE PADS that sheered off!!! didn't replace them... REMOVED THEM!! i went to the ford dealer mentioned the brakes i had to fix/replace, they went on about how its a wear item and they don't cover that... i then mentioned that they sheered off and i still have the parts, and asked about the missing pads... and they said they didn't notice... i then went off HOW DID IT PASS INSPECTION!?!?! or did you just slap a sticker on there, because the oil that you supposedly changed, was blacker than the truck its self and whoever did the last filter change, wasn't you! because they wrote the date on it 4/08... they asked me to leave before they called the cops, i pulled out my phone and said i'd call them my self. The man approached me to close my phone.... needless to say the cops were called... and escorted me off the property even though they were the ones who ripped us off.

Oh yeah and the "eddie bauer" they sold her ISN'T because they never came in v6... or am i wrong on this? No badges and v6? i think its just a fully loaded v6 explorer with "Eddie Bauer" typed on the sales slip... I'm thinking false advertisement and wrongful endangerment...

without getting a lawyer there isn't really anything you can do anyways... its ashame, who wants to pay that bill?
