Still leaking oil...(from the IP bolt)
 

Well I put the seal between the vacuum pump and case and cleaned up everything. I thought this was the culprit for the spotted driveway. Now it seems the oil is actually coming from between the timing housing and the block right above the pump[verymad]. So will re-torqueing the case when I do the KDP solve it or worse...cam out, and new gasket...maybe i can loosen the timing housing and force a little rtv in it?

Probably a loose bolt, inside or out. Check the bolts that hold the timing cover on, many of them go all the way into the block. It will probably seal up fine once the loose bolt is tightened.

I hate to say this but it also could be a cracked case from a KDP.[yuk]

Hmmm, It is just a weep that accumulates through the week, gradually coating things. When I completely dry things with carb cleaner you can see it come from the seam.

I have never read about kdp's failing on 1st gens in 4 years of diesel research though.

After a bit of contortion in the engine compartment I found the exact location of the leak. Its coming from the lower IP bolt. I guess the seal is bad between the IP and the housing, and it probably did not like the bump in timing too. In theory I can lock down the IP anywhere, pop it off the gear, put in a seal, and put it all back together just fine as long as I dont rotate the engine or pump at all (or drop the woodruff key)...right?

Hmm, a little embarrassed here. Went to re-torque the IP bolts, found that I did not get them as tight as they should be. The bottom and top bolts took almost two turns[dummy]. Goes to show you should re-torque everything you do.

Well, at least it was an easy fix. :)

To answer this, yes, that's correct. It's actually a gasket between the IP and gear housing though;).
