Steering Problem

92 W250 - My truck will no longer drive straight, when you try to center the steering, it jerks to the left or right(depending on which way you are turning), and you can never get it centered.

I replaced my steering shaft since it had some play in it, so now I can at least keep control of the truck when it jerks.

Any ideas on where to start looking?

Thanks

time to jack up the front end and start looking for components with play in them.

Mine was just doing that and it turned out the steering box was loose on the bracket that attaches to the frame. I tightened it up and it made a big improvement.

Thanks! Hopefully tonight I can take a closer look at it. I'll let you know how it works out.

Welcome to the site. Check for binding in the front axle u-joints also. Even if they aren't being rotated, they have to turn as you corner.

I had the exact same problem with my old 1st gen. It turned out to be the axle joint on the driver's side.
