Steering playing around

The steering on my truck has too much play and its not the common problems, coupler, tie-rods, etc. It tooks like the steering box has play. I have heard there is an adjustment for this, if so where? Do these go out?

On another note, I removed my muffler today....oh baby!! I scared my wife when I started it for the first time, she was in the house!!
And fixed the sagging driver door. It was a good day.

Thanks guys for the help

on the top face of the box you will see a bolt with a jam nut on it loosen the jam nut and then turn the bolt downward as you do this wiggle the steering wheel and see if it help's when you are done make sure to tighten the jam nut back down

as for the adjustment, my steering/suspension shop told me to run the adjusting screw in until it stops or snugs up, back it off a 1/4 of a turn, then tighten up the jam nut. made a world of difference in mine! i believe the screw requires a 3/16" alan btw.

I wonder if the adjustment on the steering box would also work on a reman unit too? I just replaced the steering box on my truck with a reman unit and also replaced the steering shaft with a Borgeson/new rag joint a while back. I still have side to side play in the steering wheel, meaning if driving down the road I can turn the steering wheel back and forth about 1/8-1/4 of a turn and you hardly feel the front axle respond to the direction you turn it. I do believe I'm still on the original tie-rod ends, but this thing still is not right. Still way too much play in the steering and I'd like to get it as tight as possible. Any other advice and could it be the steering column worn (from the rag joint on up to the steering wheel itself)? Thanks.

Sal

Eliminate all other sources of slop before you adjust the box. If you have someone work the wheel back and forth while you watch and feel the linkage you'll find the slack.
