Front axle u-joints! Check them out then replace before you get yourself killed! One or more cups are froze up and when they rotate due to vibration and line up vertically with the axis of the knuckle/yoke then you got no steering - usually temporary until the u-joint rotates some more - if that makes sense

I'm not sure how u joints on the front axle would affect steering. unless the hubs are locked. When my hubs are unlocked the axle is not turning. Can you clarify this more for me. I've been having the same sort of problem lately. Thanks
