Steering box

Hey y'all... My steering box in my truck has about a 1/4 turn of play, So I was wondering, is there some kind of adjustment on the steering box to take the play out of it??? or do I just need to get a new steering box??? Does anyone know of a place that sells new steering boxes, or of a place that rebuilds them??? thanks, TractorMike

The steering boxes are adjustable. The best way is to read your FSM and follow the instructions.

Are you sure that it is the steering box and not the steering joint?

It can also be the steering-box mounting points, either the box-bracket broken, or the bolts about to fall out.

I just recently tightened the bolts holding the wife's steering-box, about two full turns each.

A good friend, just today, discovered the bracket on one truck completely broken in two, and the bracket on his other truck cracked about 2/3 across.

I often point them out to customers at the shop, who were none the wiser before I showed them; of course, most of them conveniently forget it as soon as they back out the door, so as to not spend money or do work.

Search for RedHead Steering Gear (in Washington, I think).

They do mail-order, either rebuild yours or just sell you one of theirs.

They are well spoken of and have a unique hands-on process that cures the problems associated with most normal rebuilds.

HERE YOU GO; I did it for you.
