Wink Confusion, Confusion, Confusion

In looking at various starter/repair sources, I see some list a different (more expensive) starter for 1989-93, then a seperate starter for 1994-2002.

Then others will list only one part-number and state that it will fit them all from 1989-2002.

It is the same with replacement brushes, except it gets even more confusing.

Only one source I have found lists a genuine "screw-on" set of brushes that specifically fit 1989-93; the ones they have for 1994-2002 state that some soldering is required.

Some brush sets claim to be for 1989-93, yet they only have plain wire ends.

Others have little "clips" with no screw holes.

Will a starter for a 2002 bolt on a 1989 engine ??

If so, then I assume that it would be quite common to discover that the soldered-brush starter for the later model truck could very well be the re-man one mounted on an earlier truck, true ??

Thanks.

There is a difference between 93 & 94+ starters, and I think its in the mounting and clocking. Other than that????

I have a new starter for a later model Cummins. (don't ask) I will get it out and look and see what the difference is. I was told the nose (the cast Aluminum part) is all that is different. But I cannot confirm that.

I got my solenoid rebuild kit and brushes (no soldering required) here. I'd trust them to know which parts fit what.
