Stacks

I want to put a set of 4" mitre cut stacks on my truck. I've got a buddy who will do all the welding but I can't find a website that carries systems for anything pre-'94. Where should I look and what should I expect to pay for pipe and stacks?

i woulndnt buy a stack kit that is just wasteing your money if you have a buddy that will do the welding i would just biuld them yourselfs. it pretty easy to do. if you go to http://www.chromeroom.com/ they will have the stacks you want buy a piece of 4" by 4" square tubing lay it in you bed 90 up from you stock exhaust to the square pipe and set your stacks on the square pipe where you like them. it is way cheaper to do that then buy a $600 or $800 kit when you could do it for a couple hundred in materials

Let's see if I understand you correctly. 90 up from the exhaust into the bed and tie right into the sq. tube which the stacks will also be tied(welded) into?

Look at the "Homebrew Headache Rack" thread, you can see in one of those pics how i did mine with a piece of 5" pipe, and cut/welded 45 degree angles, and fastened the stacks. There's more than one way to do it though.

I just built a stack system for my bestfriend. Even with MY connections, it still cost well over 300 bucks to do it. Depending on who you get it from, a grandrock base kit is only a lil over 300 bucks.

I HATE those square tube setups, they sound like a muffler. Another of my friends has the square tube in the box and I dont like it at all. There is a big truck accessory shop that carries the grand rock kit for a very nice price, think it was 290? for the 4" and 330 for the 5". The only part you have to get is the stacks. Either way, you are looking at 500 bucks for a system. Buy a complete base kit and be done with it.

Using the T as opposed to a Y fitting, do you still get equal flow through each pipe? Or as close as you can get to equal I guess.

Use a "Y", it's better all around.

Funny you should mention that. The splitter Y we put on the truck last week has the divider plate in it, and is right in the middle, on start up or a quick jab somehow it comes out of the driver side first.

The whole equal flow thing is over rated, it may be a 1 second delay before the smoke is "equal" but..... y does it really matter? Last I checked there wasent anyone pointing fingers n laughing saying "hehehe look at that smoke delay!!" More along the lines, of "Dude, you just got spanked by an old rusty diesel!!"
lol, sorry.

I only have a $150 in mine and that includes the stacks and i made the box setup, it measures 6" tall by 8" wide. Makes for a good sound kinda reminds you of the old tanker truck off of that old movie called Duel.
