socket for the big nut on rear axle ???

Is the socket for the rear the same as the front ?

2-9/16 IIRC. Mine's 2wd, but rear's the same I think.

No, for the rear you need a 2&9/16" rounded corner six sided socket. The front uses a round socket with four tangs that engage slots in a round nut. I have found both at the local auto parts store, both listed as fitting a Ford.

I just went through this. It is 2 9/16 and listed for a ford.

Thats odd. Mine is 2 1/2, I had got a 2 9/16 because thats what it called for and it was to big.

After a good night's sleep, I happened to think you may be referring to the pinion nut instead of the spindle nut. If so, yes, both front and rear use the same socket, 1& 5/16. Hope one of these is what you are looking for.
