Was driving home truck and the dash lights got super bright same for the headlights every light on the dash came on and windshield wipers started running full speed then stopped pulled over and the smoke stopped
heres what’s not working
dash lights
radio
gauges(just volt meter)
windshield wipers
basically no power in the cab
headlight switch didn’t feel hot and nothing looks burned
fuse box has 2 burned spots and when you put a fuse back in it blows insta
ntly
So put a new turn signal switch
And a headlight switch in only lights I have working is drivers side headlight(high beam only) and drivers side front side marker light
Dash battery gauge and oil pressure gauge work as well as turn signal dash lights are blinking.
I have replaced all of the fuses with no change
also this is the back of the alt
ernator
What year truck? how do the wires look on the other side of the fuse box, are any burnt. from the looks of the power wire on your alternator, you had a direct ground in a major power wire somewhere. As Oliver said check the fusable links at the ducksfoot to start, if it is an older truck with a voltage reg on the firewall, are the wires melted to it as well?
The early '92s had a voltage regulator right? I'd check that like nonrev said, if you have one. X3 on the fusible links on the driver's side fender like both said. Looks like the alternator is shot by those pictures - or at least compromised.
Always a good idea to relay the headlights or install LEDs to eliminate a known electrical weakness/trouble spot.
Wiring all looks good no burns or melted wires anywhere in the cab besides that one fuse
i have a external voltage regulator hooked up on the truck.
The fuseable links are on the driver side inner fender… Check those. They come out of the “ducks” foot looking piece.
Lots of thread on fixing them here on DTR.
