Sloppy Column Shift Lever
So I searched through the stickies and didn't find what I was looking for. It appears that my column shift lever has something broken and before I tear into it I wanted to see what I'm up against. The gear to gear works fine so the rooster comb I believe is eliminated from the cause. What happens is the shift lever has no tension (as if a spring is missing/broke) and when I go gear to gear there is no need to pull the shift lever forward. Seems to just slide up and down and there's no real catch. Also my gear indicator seems to be off a gear… R (shows park) N (shows reverse) etc etc. The cable on the indicator is on it's furthest most slot so not sure how to fix this. Any ideas? Column diagram? Thanks
If there is no catch between gears then it is the rooster comb. The ball in there sets in each notch as you move gear to gear, you should feel the bump bump as it rides in and out of the notches. If there is no bump then the ball probably fell out and you need to repin the rooster comb like in the sticky.
Good excuse to buy a shift kit and open it all up

Sorry , wasn't sure reading it if there was. There is a sticky on upgrading the shifter to a newer style. There are a bunch of pictures to show what's in there, not sure but think there is a roll pin? Maybe that will help?
Just got back to a computer to take a look, might not be much help after all but at least is shows a little more of what is in there.
