single stack... from the fender?

ok so i have been working on this for a while. i have talked to the:
Dept. of safety
Dept. of environmental stuff
Dept. of Revanue (don't know why they had to ok it)
Dept. of Motor vehicle
like 10 people to do with emmisions
and on top of that decided to call the police to see what they had to say

after all of that the only reason i wouldn't be able to do it is obstruction of vision. and with the stack where i want to put it really doesn't get in the way, in fact the cop i talked to said "i wouldn't pull you over... sounds pretty cool" soooo, here's how i want to do this. if you are standing in the front of the truck looking at the turbo. i want to have the pipe come down slightly to the left of the frame rail and then U turn up and through the fender about where the antenna is. the hole would be half on the top part of the fender and half of the circle down the fender. looking at it today the hole wouldn't go as far as the body line on the side of the fender. before you judge the way it would look remember my truck is entirely covered in rhino lining . what i need the most help with is, how do i cut the hole? the side on the more vertical piece of the fender would be more of an oval... i need any help you guys can provide... thanks

I think most states have a rule saying that exhaust must be discharged behind the passenger compartment.

I think it would look goofy too. Of course, I didn't like the Rhino Liner paint job either...

yea i knew you wouldn't like it. no one i talked to seemed to have a problem with it. the only thing they were worried about was removing emmisions stuff and obstruction of vision. and i think i talked to everyone in the TN state government

They don't have a problem with it, until you do something else stupid and they get on your case.

Then you're exhaust is too loud, and you're horns are too loud, and you're windshield isn't safe, and you're license plate rack is illegal, and you're gauges block peripheral vision, and lights aren't aligned properly, and yadda yadda yadda. If you annoy a cop, you can for sure expect a ticket for it, even if that wasn't what annoyed the cop in the first place.

I say totally go for it, however. And while you're chopping holes in fenders, install a giant ram-air scoop in your right fender as well.

Just got mine inspected...the guy walked out, looked at the truck and the stacks and said," Those things even legal?" I said yup they are according to what I read on-line, he said ok and that the truck looked really nice. Then he said," Aww heck, just give me you reg and mileage and we'll call it a day" After all the time I spent making everything work. Sheesh. You never know I guess...

i think i am possibly leaning towards a sidepipe.... coming down off the turbo down to the right again, down and out with a side pipe and outlet before the tire. and yes i know, black rim, but there is good news... the rim is already black, lol. what do you guys think of that?

A sidepipe would be sweet, imo.

I fully support a sidepipe.

Actually, on that truck a flat black single stack with a cut and welded turnout (like Cat excavating equipment) coming straight up through the bed directly over the exhaust would look tough.

i have actually thought about dual sidepipes on my truck that work as step tubes also. would be expensive but sweet at the same time. and on the whole license plate being illegal thing. the DOT can get you for that. atleast in iowa the front plate has to be fixed to the front of the truck and cant be on a hinge. my dad had to change like 5 plate buckets on his work trucks.

Wanna- i'd love to run a stack, i agree it'd look sweet but i use the bed like crazy and would like to put one of the dump kits that mount under the stock bed at some point. i know i can get the stuff to make the stack seperate when i lift the bed but i would still be losing all that space in the front

BowtiedCTD- i love the idea of step bars/sidepipes but how in the world would you keep the outside from getting so hot? 4 inch exhaust inside 5 inch step? i still think it'd get really hot. and not sure what you are talking about with the license plate thing.

Well we were thinking about going 5 or 4 in. pipes. then taking band clamps and some aluminum diamond plate, and either welding or riveting the plate to the clamp. then when it was all said and done sending it out to be jet hotted. i think that is what its called. that way the aluminum dissipates the heat better. and you wold still have tread to step on. but it was going to be really expensive somewhere around 900 maybe. most of it from the jet hotting. so i put it off for a long time but its still something i would like to look into in the future.

Take a piece of card board and roll it to the size of the exhaust pipe and add a little clearance brfore you tape it together. Now take a pair of scissors and trim the card board tube to fit the contour where the pipe will exit the fender. Trace a line with a magic marker using the card board tube as a guide and start cutting following the line. A body saw or plasma cutter might work if you don't set the Rhino Guard on fire. A Rotto Zip with a metal cutting bit would be my first choice. What about the rain?

I vote for a single 15 inch stack coming straight through the roof.

boatnik, i seem to be stepping away from the fender stack, but if i did the plan would be to have a 5 inch tunrout stack that fits snug in the hole and have the 4 inch pipe stick up most of the way inside but not to the top. that would allow the 4 inch to move some with the engine... made sence to me, lol, that doesn't mean much though
