I was wondering if someone would tell me where the wire from the shut off solenoid is supposed to be properly conected for power and the routing of it. I bought this truck 2 weeks ago and have been fixing the the wiring problems on this 91 W350....there had been a lot of hillbilly engenering,lol.....They had ran a red wire from the solenoid, wrapped the excess wire 6 times around the steering shaft, then through the fire wall and shoved it in with the number 3 fuse. The blue start wire looks factory and is connected to the solenoid switch. Also where is the proper mounting of the fuse box, it's just hanging down.

I can help you with the fuse box. It is supposed to clip into a panel at the bottom of the dash. The two nubs on the box slide into two hooks molded into the back side of the panel and the tab on the box snaps into the bottom of the panel, if it isn't busted.

Hmmm.....I'll have to check that out. I got the FSM and it didn't have a picture, so I was shooting blind. I got the 93 FSM because it is has the getrag rebuild. It seems the hte 93 wiring diagrams and my 91 have different colored wires.

Yeah, that wiring diagram will not be real helpful on a '91.

That blue wire should have power when the key is on. If it doesn't, figure out why.

 

Alright I found the fuse box holder tabs, thats Alot better! The blue wire is is good, will fire right up! Now to just figure out how to properly wire the shut off. I have it rigged back the way they had it for now.

 

The fuel solenoid opens the flow of fuel with applying 12vdc.

 

Check that extra red wire and see if it has no power with key OFF and power with key ON; make this examination with the red wire NOT in contact with the factory blue wire.

My educated guess is that the blue wire had been getting intermittent or no current and the red wire was installed to a key-ON source in the fuse-block to BY-PASS the blue wire.

There is a connection point for that blue wire that is hidden in a big wad of wires, all covered up with tape and loom, that will corrode and cause the blue wire to have a bad connection.

When that connection momentarily loses contact, the engine will shut down; when you then test the blue wire to see why the engine died, the current has magically re-appeared; it can give you fits.

When re-wiring, use your own ideas, as DODGE did a very poor job of wiring these trucks.
