Shredding Belts
I have recently shred one serpentine belt on my first gen so I replaced it with a new one today and when I started it the belt jumps one rib closer to the motor on the fan pulley and rubs a bolt it looks like slightly to me. I was wandering if anyone has had this problem before and what I should replace first to stop it.

You need to replace the belt tensioner. The resilient rubber mount of it has deteriorated allowing the idler pulley to move out of alignment. As such, it steers the belt wrong.
You can go to the passenger's side of the engine bay, and eyeball the pulley's, lining them up. You'll see the tensioner pulley sagging. And WELCOME to our forums. ;) :) |
You'll want the Dayco brand tensioner pulley assembly. Autozone carries it, about $70.

Check your crankshaft for end play also. Do you have a manual or auto tranny?
