Shortening oil pan sump??

Does anyone see a problem with me whacking a few inches out of the deep part of the oil pan? Im putting a 92 6bt into my 68 Chevy pickup. Its kind of a hotrod project and will be lowered quite a bit. Its either shortening the sump in the pan or cutting and raising the tranny tunnel in the truck but with that comes raising the 1400+ pound motor and tranny and Im kind of trying to keep that weight as low as possible. Im at about a 5" ride height now (thats 5" from the bottom of the frame to the ground) and the pan is maybe 2" off the ground thats just not gonna cut it. In addition to shortening the sump I could lower the shallow portion in front of the sump to make it deeper so I dont loose any capacity. See any issues with this? Thanks again!!

If you take a look around some of the other swap sights you might be able to come up with a part number for a factory cummins oil pan.

There are other cummins oil pans/sumps from other applications, like a genset, that likely are more shallow.

It would be hard to shorten the oil pan because it is 2 layers of steel with some sort of insulation in the middle.

A nice fabricated aluminum one would be sweet.

Did not know that. I have a few to mess with but a custom one would probably be easier in the long run. I have access to a water jet and a bunch of aluminum. I think I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the advice.

I am thinking about trying to make some fabricated valve covers myself.

Had a spare pan cut it open today, 1 layer thick not 2 layers so that means I can hack this sucker up. Im just looking to get this truck running, work out the bugs then pull it all apart for paint, powdercoat, and all that. Then I will build a custom pan. Thanks again for the help picks are on the way if you guys/gals want to see a Chevrolet that is
