Shifter Top

Where can I find a shifter top for a getrag. What I am looking for is the top of the tranny that is /hold shifter forks and shifter. May be needing one soon. Does anyone make these, still available form DC, or is it a junkyard item now? Any ideas?

Junkyard or tranny shop may have used or rebuilt ones. Try standardtransmission.com

I think Zumbrota Gear has used ones.

They want 450 for a rebuilt one plus 100 core charge. I hope I can find one cheaper than that...[verymad]

Have to keep lookin'.

Mine is getting sloppy somewhere. Getting hard to get into gear at times.

Might just have a decent machine shop look at it and see if they have any ideas?

I just bought one about a month and a half ago from Blumenthals. $433.00 shipped with the $100 core charge and shim pack ($20) that I ordered for the getrag. Minus the Core charge and the shims it was just about $300 shipped. It's $225 before shipping, taxes etc. Oh yeah I had it overnighted so you could get it cheaper if you can wait. This is a fully rebuilt unit with new forks etc. Looks like new.... works like new too.

Could be your master or slave cylinders getting weak too. And it could just be your pressure plate. Or it could be a combination [laugh]

It doesn't grind though? Just won't slip into 1st, 2nd, or reverse some times. If it put it into 4th first it usually goes right into reverse.

Acts the same way with the engine off. Sometimes I am stuck sitting at stop lights trying to get it in gear to go.

Hey spunbearing, what prompted you to change the cover? Im having the same problem as andyr354 and wondering if it would help???

spunbearing 09-13-2007 02:48 PM

Mine needed too many new pieces to make it worth me rebuilding it myself. It's a pain in the butt to get the sliders and everything out anyways. You have to pound out the plugs and there isn't enough room to punch the roll pins straight through as I found out. You have to slide hammer them out. I just realized that it would cost me more in time and parts than a rebuilt unit.
