SDX 5x16s. Timing, runaway and misc. questions

Where should the timing be set for these 5x16s. I have pods and have its the whole way to the head. Not sure if i should keep it there or not when I install the 5x16s next week.

What kind of smoke am I going to be lookin at compared to the pods. Will there be more WOT smoke/less cruise around town smoke

What kind of egts can i be expecting with these injectors running an hx40 58mm compared to being able to run the egts up to 1600 with pods in a 0-60 run. Are they a hot injector or controlable?

Another question that may sound stupid to some but, can just changing injectors cause run away. With my pods i dont belive that I'm near run away. Ive never had any signs but I wasnt sure if just changing the injectors can cause this.

With the PODS im wastegating my hx-40 (58MM)at 40psi. For now thats where i want to keep it until tax refund when i can afford a nice turbo of choice plus i dont want to risk down time of a blown head gasket on my only mode of transportation. So what I am asking is changing over to the 5x16s wastegated at the same psi going to be any difference in power than my pods are at the same fuel settings. Basically if i pull the pods leave everything as is and drop in the 5x16s am i going to notice any difference in the pull the truck gives or the seat of pants power seeing as the turbos still wastegating at 40 psi or not until i change the turbo out?

Also what kind of power is average maximum power with the right settings and ect out of these injectors.

I can't wait to see how you like them I was thinking about trying a set from them when I get some extra cash.

never hear of them till tonight .... Would like to hear more if anyone is using them

Honestly, I don't think you will see a whole lot of change in performance from these injectors over POD's. They might burn a little cleaner (most anything is cleaner than PODs), but you aren't gaining a lot of fuel volume. I've never heard of SDX, do they make the injectors themselves? I wouldn't worry about run away if you aren't messing with the pump at all

SDX is becoming one of the biggest names in cummins injectors. Those 5x16's should move a lot more fuel than those pods**. I would leave the timing where it's at if i were you. You probably will be impressed with those injectors.

**depending on what size pods actually are. i have seen a few different numbers thrown out.

I was going to get these before I got my 6 x 14's, and they told me on the phone that these were "competition" injectors. So I didn't get them.

I believe they will flow more than 6 x 14's (based on hole size)

SDX and Exergy injectors are upcoming names, both are the utmost quality. I personally prefer these over any other injector.

As far as timing I would leave it where its at.

Power difference? Slight if any at all, you'll need a little more charger to make them shine.

My money would be on a set of cheap dirty POD's making more power than a set of SDX's 5x16's. Just ask Tim Worline how his were working for him.

The_Head 10-15-2010 08:15 PM

Why would you put your money on the POD's? Makes no sense to me. POD's are 4 x 12 right? versus 5 X 16?

Pods are 4x14s, and for the price they are they make pretty dang good power if you ask me. And I think the power you get out of them depends a lot on your turbo, if you have enough air, you will still burn most of that fuel even if people say they are dirty therefore giving you pretty good respectable power. I've sure enjoyed mine for what i paid for them.

Yeah good point, they're hard to beat for the price. POD's are proven, SDX's 5x16's are not.

pods are kind of freaks. swear they made more torque than my current 5x .0013 stixs. ive put pods in several trucks, a little tuning and they do great for the money.
