Sawzall to the fuel pump!!!
Sawzall to the fuel pump!!!
So today I noticed that the throttle lever on my fuel pump was hitting the fuel line to the fuel pump when I was at WOT so i wasn't getting fuel throttle travel. So i took the Sawzall to it and cut it off evenly against the throttle stop. (running the sawzall as slow as a hacksaw but without the hard work) I gained over 9 lbs of boost just by doing this because it was keeping me about 1/4-1/2 inch out of the throttle. I'm very, very surprised.
(Dont mind the mess of wires on the TPS. All the prongs broke off so i soldered wires on
)
Heres some pictures of what I am talking about.
1st picture gives you an idea of what I'm talking about.
2nd picture shows what it used to be like.
3rd picture shows how far it goes now.
Has anyone else done this before

Is it possible your throttle-lever could be improperly indexed on the splined shaft ??
I am going to closely inspect the four that I have and see if any of them have the same contact.
Also, did you try to saw off a finger or was that hide knocked off in some other way ??

I Had a diesel tech around my area check my fuel pump a while ago after the 366 spring install when I had troubles with the install and he indexed it correctly.

Nah, I was trying to use a #2 Phillips screw driver as a pry bar and slipped. Needless to say I learned the hard way to use the correct tools. Notice my little finger is also smashed and broken from the incident.

I have noticed that interference on many 1st gen trucks. The problem is that you have to bend the fuel line out of the way slightly to access the inboard pump mounting nut, to set the timing or such. Once you bend it, then it obstructs the throttle lever until you bend the line back to its original position. I've never trimmed a throttle lever, but I've learned to make sure I bend the fuel line back to its normal place after setting pump timing.
