Sandblasting exhaust housing?

I finally got the replacement housing for my turbo. It's in kind of rusted condition. Is it a good idea to take it apart and have it sandblasted to get off the loose rust? What about painting it wit a nice heat resistant paint?

I have painted mine with High resistance paint (BBQ stuff among others) and it will last for awhile but flake off after a period of time. I did read on this site about someone using a Teflon Paint or something like that which works slicker the crap and it doesn't come off.

But yes, blast it (just cover inside parts) and paint it.

DGF-123 from NAPA stores.. Spray-on DRY Graphite Film.. I previously posted about using this stuff but I don't have the napa #'s right now...
Works good even on tight rusted manifold... Should work even BETTER on a freshly cleaned iron surface!!! Don't get the wrong can, as they also sell WGF-123 which is a WET Graphite Film...
I haven't been able to burn the DGF-123 stuff off of mine yet.
The best part about it? It very closely matches the same color of Cummins BlueBlack paint on the engine from the factory and it remains the same color!.

That dry graphite film sounds like the good stuff. I have to get another can of brake cleaner to get all the oil and off from cleaning out the threads. I'm getting antsy about it and I can hardly wait till the reducing hose gets here so I can do the switch. Have to drill a hole in the pump brace to get at the plug in the manifold for the waste gate. Then it's time for the pyro and boost gauges. YEAH! Time to start turning the screws in the pump!

My brother just keeps shaking his head. He says "You're gonna blow that motor up! It's got to many miles on it to take the extra power." How do I answer him or should I try?

As a matter of fact he DOES drive Chebys. He used to drive a truck many years ago. Now he knows all about trucks. He really torques me off sometimes with his BS. I figure that if somebody on this list can get 1000hp out of a CTD then my little efforts won't hurt much. Heck, the WH1C is a stock turbo off a later year for criminy sake!

I just get frustrated with his know-it-all BS.

Thanks for letting me share.
