Update. Did a compression test of all cylinders. Almost 400 psi on all Gotta take the injectors back and get them tested today. I did notice that the white smoke was heavier after it set for a couple off days. Leaky injector?

Had a stuck open injector. They replaced it for free. Also dropped off an oil sample to get tested. Should know something later today

Well, if it starts getting worse than you'll know. Sounds like a plan to me. Hopefully all is well.

As you have come this far . . . I would suggest double checking that cracking #3 injector stops the noise. Then I would remove and inspect the #3 delivery valve from the injection pump: A broken spring or stuck plunger in a delivery valve could conceivably cause the problem, and would explain why it started with the pump remove & refit.

I think that sounds like the best option at this point. I did confirm this morning that it does go away when I crack the injector.

Tell me if I'm right or wrong on this......
The injection pump turns at half the rpm of the motor. So if I'm right. My truck idles at 800 rpm. Then the knock should happen 100 times in 15 seconds.

Well I woke up at 2am with this on my mind. Came out first thing with a stop watch and I know it's not perfect science but it was darn close. Maybe I'm way off.

I also retarded the timeing on the pump and it seemed to get quieter. Just done that. Thanks for all the info and patience

Alec

Can I just remove the one or do I have to tear the injection pump apart. Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend

Yea, but you probably should familiarize yourself with the pump a bit.

This will get you started, also a really good VE pump theory of operation on youtube you can watch.

Your math is correct.

Pat,

I assume you meant to post this link:

And did not mean to slight Jim.
