rim offset/calipers
rim offset/calipers
I have 2nd gen rims on the rear of my truck and would like to put same on the front. Yesterday I took the spare, also 2nd gen, and tried it on the front. Much to my suprise it didnt fit. Good thing I didnt have a flat on the front! I am ignorant about offset, brake calipers, steering geometry, etc. Can I grind the caliper to get the rims to fit? Will steering be affected with the different offest? It looks like it would just about cover the caliper if it slid on all the way. I wouldnt be running tires much different from stock.

Tim, You don't have your signature filled out so I don't know what your truck is but I have a pair of stock 2nd gen wheels on the front of my '92 D250 parts truck and nothing rubs. It you have 4wd, that may be a difference or you may have a different type of 2nd gen wheel than I have. If I get a chance, I'll shoot a picture next time I'm out there.
I measured the difference...about 1.5 inches. If I did grind the calipers I dont think the rims would clear the tie rod ends. Looks like I will need to look around for some OE first gen rims.
