Replaced gears and odometer still doesn't work

Hi guys, I've spent all day looking online for the reason that my 1991 D250 3sp auto with OD 4x4 5.9 diesel's odometer doesn't work (speedometer works perfectly). I ordered new odometer gears and put them in. The gears spin like they should by hand. But when I put it in the truck, nothing. It's almost like it's not getting a signal or the motor is too weak to spin the gears on its own. Any ideas would help. I really don't want to have to replace the whole cluster if I don't have to. Thanks in advance.

I don't really know what is wrong, but it is probably something that failed in the cluster itself. The speedo is working, so the sender on the T-case is working too. If you go with a replacement cluster, try Oliver Foster on this sire, he may have one...Mark

Check the connection on the black wire that goes to the stepper motor. When I put new gears in mine the wire looked like it was making a good connection but when I gently pulled on the wire it came loose. Soldered it back in place and everything went back to working

Thanks fellas. I'll take it back apart tomorrow and try to look at the wire connections again. But I don't think the black wire would be the problem considering it's the negative and my speedo, which has a positive and negative run from the same board, works fine. If anything I think it may be the green wire, which I think is a ground but don't know.

This is totally of no help but when mine quit I replaced the little plastic gears which were broken.

Didn't make a difference. Then a couple years later it started working again.

Just like a woman...
