removing old injectors

Hey guys, tomorrow i am removing my bullydog injectors from my old motor. i made the tool in the sticky. i had to use a different nut at the bottom but it still threads onto a 12mm x1.5 pitch about 1 full turn. so, what do i have to do to remove the injectors? just take off the fuel lines and undo the large nut on the bottom of the injectors, then use the tool to pull them out? what size is the nut for the injectors?
thanks.

24mm deepwell socket is what you want. For injectors 1,2, and 3, I remove valve covers 1 and 2. This will give you more room to gently move the injection lines out of the way to pull the injectors. For the last 3 injectors, I remove valve covers 5 and 6. I also remove the 10mm bolts that hold the injection lines down to the intake plate. This will allow you some room to push the lines out of the way. 44ftlbs is the torque for the 24mm injector nut.

Injector install

Anybody have any helpful hunts or tricks for installing injectors or is it similar to changing spark plugs[redface]

Spark plugs? What are those???? [laugh]

you just have to keep cracking injector lines to get them bled. It can take a while but youll know when their bled. And make sure you get the injectors torqued right.

ryan10, why all the double posts? Just ask what you need to know in one thread and it makes it easier for us to help.

sorry, i thought they belonged under 2 different categories. anyway, i got my injectors in tonight, but the truck wont start. 1 bled the lines twice now and the truck still wont fire. the lines i am bleeding are the 17mm nuts on top of the injectors. what is wrong?

ryan10 09-21-2007 11:54 PM

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention when i pulled the injectors, i cranked the truck over to blow everything out of the bores. this probaly emtied the lines. when i first cranked the truck it would "fart" out but now it just cranks like the lines need to be bled but i bled them up top twice. where else can i bleed them, or what else is the problem?

Keep bleeding. Start back at the fuel filter and get all the air out from there first then moove on the the next accessible fitting until you get to the injectors. You can unplug the shut off solinoid and use the starter to crank over the lift pump while you bleed the low pressure side. On the high side crack 3 lines and crank for a while then tighten them back down. then try to start it. I can run on only 3 cys then you can bleed the other 3.

OK, i have fuel at the bolt on top of the fuel filter. the truck started to fart out again after a lot of bleeding, but then stopped. I had someone else crank the truck and when they did, i noticed it looked like fuel and air bubbles were leaking from the 24mm nut that you tighten down the injectors, on cylinders 1 and 6. what is causing this? could this be why its not starting?

1 and 6 aren't sealed, could be crud in the bores keeping the coppers from sealing or you didn't get them tight enough.

That won't keep it from starting. When you bleed the lines, how long do you crank? Crank it at least 15 seconds with the lines open before switching to the other 3.

ryan10 09-22-2007 07:16 AM

Ok, ill try that i was only going for like 5 seconds. should i get it running first then re-seal them, or should i re-seal the 2 injectors then get it running?

wannadiesel 09-22-2007 07:17 AM

I'd fix it first. No sense in bleeding it twice.

ryan10 09-22-2007 07:29 AM

OK, thanks. i just cranked the 1st 3 for like 12 seconds, fuel started coming out pretty good, but i cracked the last 3 and the truck still wouldnt fire off on the first 3 injectors? shouldnt it have fired off? i have to let the battery charge up now.

wannadiesel 09-22-2007 07:35 AM

It usually takes 3 or 4 tries to get the air out. It sounds like you have not been cranking long enough. It will start eventually - and then run like crap for a few minutes. It may even sound like you dropped a nut down each injector bore. [laugh]

ryan10 09-22-2007 04:38 PM

ok, well i have probaly done it 10 times now. sometimes it farts out sometimes it doesnt. i almost had it once. it fired then died, so i closed all six and tried to start in and then it wouldnt even fart out. i have been doing the first 3 injectors, then the last 3 injectors. what am i doing wrong?
