After much brain pain, I finally get it. My confusion was that the guy in the sticky cut the green wire in order to move the entire mess down close to the alternator. I didn't even need to cut the green wire, as I am installing the relay near the VR. It has been that unnecessarily cut green wire that has tortured me for 3 days. Oh well, I need to suffer somehow, as my life is perfect in every other respect ...Mark

Ok you can't read my lousy handwriting, it says:

Green from VR as original

Blue from VR to 87 and to the big blue wire at alt connector

85 to ground

30 through fuse to positive

86 to ignition

Like it says, does it look right?...thanks Mark

Yeah, I think that it is right, but after what happened to you, I'll wait for a guru to ok it, or correct it, either way is good...Mark

Ok guys,I got the old girl going again, all is good. I got to thinking what I could have done along the side of the road in Mexico to get me down the road where I could do a proper repair. My problem turned out to be the last 2 inches of the blue wire to the VR was as stiff as a nail, causing a voltage drop to the VR resulting in an overcharge situation. What would the roadside solution have been trying to get a preferably fused wire directly from the battery to the blue contact on the VR? The only way I can think of to do that is to replace the affected wire to the VR, but I can't think of an easy way to do it, alongside the road that is. Any good ideas on how one might do this? Of course the fix is the relay setup, but that would be an accomplishment along the road, TIA...Mark

Maybe add a length of alligator-clipped, 10 gauge fused wire to your traveling tool box?...Being heavy gauge and replaceable fused, it could be used in any emergency......Ben

I thought of that, but it would be difficult to connect to the VR. I thought, it would take a little fore thought, is to clip off a good VR connector, or fabricate another end, that could be spliced in. The problem with that is you might as well do the relay fix. I am thinking that there really is not a great way to fix that problem, without some pre-planning. If I would have been thinking clearly, I could have disconnected my auxiliary battery in order to save that one, but I would not have been able to come up with a fix. Maybe, cut the VR connector in two, remove the blue wire connector, run a wire with a crimp connector to the battery, connect the other half of the factory connector or put a crimp on connector on that wire also and roll on...Mark P.S. I never would have thought of that shade tree fix at the time, because I knew far less about this crap then...
